A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed a lock was placed on a cupboard beneath the sink in the washroom. The lock was easily opened as it was not secured. Located in the cupboard was bleach and other chemicals for cleaning.
Corrective action. Please ensure to secure the locks where chemicals are kept so hazardous substances are not accessible to the children in care
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed a loose cord hanging from the stereo. In addition, several bottles of hand sanitizer were located at the children's level.
Corrective action. Please ensure cords are secured.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation. The first aid kit was missing a triangular bandage. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CNVQXE. The first aid kit was also missing a CPR mask.
Corrective action. Please ensure the first aid kit has sufficient supplies.
11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Licensing reviewed the record of fire drills. In discussion with staff, fire drills were completed for the months of November and December but these were not recorded.
Corrective action. Please ensure to record fire drills after they are completed.
13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. During the inspection the children's attendance records were reviewed. Many departure times for the months of January and February were missing.
Corrective action. Please ensure that departure times are recorded daily.

Observation. Licensing reviewed the staff records. A Criminal Record Check is expired for one employee. The staff works with another staff in the facility at all times

Observation. Two character references were observed for a volunteer. One character reference was completed by a spouse.
Corrective action. Please ensure character references are completed by someone who is not related by blood or marriage to the individual they are providing a reference for.

Observation. The following was observed during the inspection in an unlocked cupboard: -Shaving cream. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BY4QRL -An aerosol can with a chemical that read, "keep out of reach of children". This was corrected during the inspection.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. Products with a drug identification number (DIN) were observed in the first aid kit. No permission for applying these medications was observed. This was discussed at a previous inspection. These were removed from the first aid kit.
Corrective action. Please ensure to have written permission from a parent or guardian prior to administering any medication

Corrective action. Please ensure to verify staff certificates and provide documentation in the staff record as verification that this is completed.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: -The sink in the washroom is chipped. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BCDPQD -Paint chips in the cubby area. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BCDPQD -The cabinet doors under the sink are showing signs of wear. -The sandbox cover was rough and may cause a potential for splinters.
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.
