  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection licensing observed the following throughout the facility: -Chemicals located in the washrooms. These were accessible to children. Some of these items were removed. -A room used to store janitorial items including chemicals was unlocked -A washroom had cleaner located at the children's level on the top of the toilet. This was corrected -Lysol wipes were observed under the sink in one classrooms. These were removed -Sharp gardening shears were located under the dink. These were removed -Cords were accessible in the naproom and behind a shelf in the classroom. These could present a potential hazard.

    Corrective action. Some items were corrected during the inspection

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection: -A shelf located in the hallway was over 4 feet and this was not anchored. Please correct by November 28th and provide active supervision in the area until this is completed.) -Staff bags were located in an unlocked cabinet. This could present a potential hazard,

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. The care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

    Observation. Criminal Record Check is not current (expired) for one or more employees.

    Corrective action. In reviewing the staff documentation checklist one criminal record check (CRC) was expired since May 2024.In discussion the Manager stated the CRC is in process.

    A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that in one of the children's bathrooms, soiled diapers were placed in a container without a cover.

    Corrective action. Ensure that soiled diapers are placed in a covered container.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed that in one of the nap rooms, the inside pipe and metal parts of the mounted wall heater was accessible to a child whose sleeping mat was beside it. Part of the cover of the heater located just above the ground was missing. During inspection, it was discussed with a staff and the manager for the child's sleeping mat to be moved away from the heater until it is fixed.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a safe environment is always provided to children while under the supervision of employees.
