A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. By the left back corner of the outdoor area, there is a pile of loose dirt and multiple small rocks that present a choking hazard.

Corrective action. The licensee will ensure these items are not accessible to children.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. 2 staff with valid criminal record checks addressed to another organization.

Corrective action. The licensee has shared the CRCs with this organization and awaits results. The licensee will notify Licensing once the site-specific CRCs have been obtained.

Observation. Outdoors: 1) Multiple dips and uneven areas in grass area which pose as tripping hazards to children. 2) Exposed vines with thorns along the chain link fence. 3) Multiple areas with loose dirt. Indoors: 1) 1 wooden shelving unit that is not secured to the wall and poses as a falling hazard if climbed upon.

Corrective action. Outdoor: Please ensure uneven areas are levelled out, ensure exposed vines are not accessible to children, and loose dirt piles are removed or covered. Indoor: Please ensure the shelving unit is secured to prevent falling over on children.

A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).

Observation. 1 child in attendance with no registration file. As per the Manager, the child is new and doing gradual entry. The parents will be submitting the registration forms tomorrow.

Corrective action. Please ensure registration files for children are obtained before attending the facility.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.

Observation. -1 child with a listed allergy and no follow-up instructions from parents if the allergen is ingested. As per the Manager, parents have communicated that the allergy is no longer relevant. Licensing and the Manager discussed having the parents update the child’s file or provide additional documentation outlining this information.

Corrective action. Please ensure follow-up instructions from the parents are obtained related to the listed allergy. If the allergy is no longer relevant, please ensure documentation is obtained from the parents outlining this.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

Observation. -1 child missing photo.

Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete with all required information.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. -2 children missing doctor name and telephone number. Licensing explained that if the families do not have a family doctor, then walk-in clinic is sufficient. -1 child with parents listed as emergency contacts. Licensing explained that emergency contacts should be individuals that can contact the parents when the facility cannot.

Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete with all required information.
