A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During this inspection a child was observed using the washroom without staff supervision.

Corrective action. The manager stated that a staff person is always in the washroom with children and that she will ensure no children are unsupervised when using the washroom.

Observation. On review of children's files one file did not have contact information for a doctor or medical clinic and one file did not have contact information for an emergency contact.

Corrective action. The manager will obtain the required information.

Observation. Two child with food allergies do not have a care plan and one care plan does not include the symptoms a child may have during an allergic reaction.

Corrective action. The manger will ensure complete care plans are available for all children who have food allergies.

Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for two staff.

Corrective action. The manager will ensure immunization status is available for all staff.

Observation. Two staff files were reviwed. One staff has an RCMP criminal record check and one staff has a criminal record check that is not site specific or has been obtained through the sharing program.

Corrective action. The manager will ensure all staff have the required criminal record check.

Observation. Two staff files were reviewed. A resume was not available in either file.

Corrective action. The manger will ensure a resume is available for all staff.

A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.

Observation. it was noted that a child was asleep in a small rattan chair rather than a sleep mat, the licensee stated he comes to daycare asleep,

A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

Observation. Licensing reviewed the fire drill record log and noted there was no record for Februray 2022.

Corrective action. Please ensure fire drills are impemented monthly and recorded.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

Observation. Licensing observed that validation for an ECE certificate was not completed.

Corrective action. Please ensure that ECE certificates of educators are verified.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. One staff was employeed at this facility therefore one staff file was reviewed. The file was missing immunization status.

Corrective action. Please ensure you have on file evidence that a person employed in your facility has complied with the province's immunization program.

Observation. Licensing reviewed one staff file. File was missing a record of the person's work history.

Corrective action. Please ensure you keep on file a record of work history for all employees

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed cleaning products, hair spray stored under the sink in the washroom. A rodent bait box was also observed in the children's outdoor play area.

Corrective action. The Manager removed the items under the bathroom and she will look into placing a children's safety lock on the cupboard. At this time the outdoor play area is not being used by the children as they are using the grassy area in front of the building. When the outdoor play area is being used by the children ensure the bait box is inaccessible to children.

A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.

Observation. Licensing looked at 6 children's lunch boxes, at random, and noted that none of them had an ice pack.

Corrective action. High risk foods (ex: rice, pasta, meat, dairy products etc) must be kept cool or hot to prevent children from getting sick. This may be achieved by placing an ice pack in the lunch box or storing the foods in a thermos.

In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

Observation. The Licensee has been working on the children's and staff files. During today's inspection not all records were available. Children's emergency cards were readily available.

Corrective action. Ensure records are stored in one place within the facility.
