  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Children's snack and lunches are kept in fridge, however, no thermometer in fridge to measure temperature.

  Corrective action. Manager said they will get a thermometer and keep it in the fridge at all times

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Upon inspecting the facility, the following items were observed: - A bottle of bleach and water and a bottle of floor cleaning solutions were placed on a shelf at children’s level in the main play area. (Corrected during the inspection) - An opened-bag of ice-melt salt was stored in the cubby area by the entrance, which was accessible to children. (Corrected during the inspection)

  Corrective action. Staff corrected the above-mentioned items during the inspection, and she said she will all hazardous items will be kept out of children’s reach.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Upon review three staffs’ files, one staff’s immunization status was not obtained.

  Corrective action. The Manager confirmed the immunization status of the staff was not obtained and she will obtain it.

• STAFFING

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. Licensing observed a criminal record check was not obtained for a person over the age of 12 ordinarily present.

  Corrective action. The Manager confirmed a criminal record check was not obtained for one person who is considered ordinarily present. The Manager said she will obtain it and ensure the person has no unsupervised access to children.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Upon review three staffs’ files, one staff does not have two-character references obtained.

  Corrective action. The Manager confirmed two reference checks were not obtained for the staff. The Manager said she will obtain them

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. Licensing observed children are not using single use towels to dry their hands after hand hygiene. They are using a shared towel.

  Corrective action. Please ensure children use a single use towel to dry hands after hand hygiene.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 6 children's files and noted 1 child required life saving medication. There was no care plan developed for this child.

  Corrective action. please ensure a care plan is developed in consultation with parents for the child requiring support.

  Observation. Licensing observed emergency medicine; however, no care plan created for the child requiring extra support. The staff was able to verbally to communicate the course of action and signs and symptoms should the child require support.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to obtain evidence that an employee has complied with the Provinc's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. There are 2 of 3 staff early childhood education certificates posted.

  Corrective action. Ensure all staff have their certificates posted.

  A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.

  Observation. The facility provides morning and afternoon snack however there is no notification to families of what was served.

  Corrective action. Licensing discussed with the Manager the requirement of informing families, on a daily basis, what was offered to their child.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].

  Observation. Upon review of 3 staff file Licensing noted one file contains a criminal record clearance letter addressed to another agency/employer.

  Corrective action. The Licensee must ensure that all criminal record clearance letters are addressed to them. Licensing discussed with the Manager about applying on line to have the results shared with them.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee is satisfied, based on the information available to the licensee under subsection (1) and the licensee's or, in the case of an employee who is not the manager, the manager's own observations on meeting the person, that the person (b) has the personality, ability and temperament necessary to manage or work with children.

  Observation. The Licensee has obtained references for staff however there is no evidence that the references have been verified.

  Corrective action. Licensing discussed with the Manager implementing a system that demonstrates they have verified staff's references.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and none of the files contained evidence the early childhood educator's certificates have been verified.

  Corrective action. Licensing informed the Manager she will need to go on-line to the ECE Registry website to verify each staff's certificates and to place a copy of the verification on the staff's file. This must be done whenever the certificate has been renewed or additional certificates have been added.
