A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed the following: -Two sashes for the drapes was hanging at a lower level. This could present a potential hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspections: #CLAN-CPHPCD and #CLAN-CLFPYB. This was corrected during the inspection -A door to a second washroom was open. Paint was located under the sink. This was corrected during the inspection -A cord for a fan was left loose on the floor and this was within easy reach of the children in care. This was corrected during the inspection

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed that a bi-fold door was off the track.

11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. A medication authorization form was observed for one child for diaper cream. The form was filled out but not signed by the parent. In discussion with the staff they have applied the diaper cream
Corrective action. Please ensure medication forms are signed by the parent prior to applying any medication or diaper cream.

Observation. During the inspection the edge of a bench had a porous surface where the paint was removed. This was not corrected by the date specified on the routine inspection. This is a repeat contravention. The plan for maintenance was discussed.

Observation. During the inspection licensing observed a stereo with a cord in the sleep area and a sash for the curtain hanging at a lower level. This could present a potential hazard. This was corrected during the inspection.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The following was observed during the inspection: -Several paint chips were observed in the facility. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-C9NMWT, # CLAN-BKZRLK -The edge of a bench had a porous surface where the paint was removed. -In some areas the laminate on the floor was chipping around the edges. This could make the surface difficult to clean and could harbour bacteria. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-C9NMWT. -The door to the naproom had a dent in it.
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following was observed during the inspection: - Duct tape was used on the corner of tables to keep padded corner protectors in place. Duct tape is difficult to clean. -Two children were served lunch from one bowl and one spoon. Licensing recommended that the staff provide one bowl and one spoon for each child to reduce the potential for cross contamination if a child becomes ill. Please correct by November 24, 2022
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided to children at all times.

Observation. During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility: - several board books were placed in a bin on top of the play kitchen. The children were moving the toy kitchen and hiding behind it. This was corrected during the inspection. -plastic bags were observed in the washroom at the children's level.

11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as Family Child Care or Child-minding, must have for each child at least 3.7 m2 of usable floor area in the community care facility, excluding (a) hallways, (b) built in storage areas, (c) bathrooms, and (d) fixed appliances, or, if not fixed, large appliances that are not normally moved from one area to another.
Observation. The facility is licensed for a maximum of eight children in care. During the inspection licensing observed that the second room that is licensed for children was being used as a storage room. The following items were observed: -a car seat -four high chairs -a table -four plastic and metal chairs. -a poinsettia -a bed Some items were removed during the inspection
Corrective action. Please ensure the entire area that is licensed for children is used by children and not for storing materials or furniture. The second room must be open when over 4 children are present to ensure there is 3.7 meters square per child for 8 children in care. If the second room is not being used for care than the licensed capacity will be decreased. The second room must contain toys and materials to comply with Schedule G of the CCLR.
11050 - CCLR s.14(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During the inspection licensing observed the following inside the facility: -holes in the wall with drywall exposed. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BKZRLK -Several paint chips were noticed throughout the facility. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BKZRLK -a lock on the door to the outside area was exposed -the laminate is chipping around the edges. This may make it difficult to clean and may harbour bacteria. During the inspection licensing observed the following outside the facility: - a broken toy in the outdoor play area. -a plug in the outdoor play area has tape on it
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility and equipment are in good repair.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. Four children's records of eight were reviewed. One child's record was missing their immunization and the corresponding immunization record. The Director presented evidence of the record. Upon inspection, the dates were not filled in.
Corrective action. Please ensure children's records are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. During the inspection the attendance was reviewed. Five departure times were missing. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-B95QBA and #CLAN-BBXNQK and #CLAN-BKZRLK.
Corrective action. Please ensure the attendance records are complete to ensure the health and safety of children in care.

Immediately after a person who was the subject of a character reference is no longer employed by or ordinarily present at the community care facility, a licensee must return all character references to the person, or destroy the character references.
Observation. During the inspection several staff files were observed from staff who are no longer working at the facility.
Corrective action. Please ensure character references are returned or destroyed when an employee is no longer employed at the facility.

A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation. During the inspection the gate in the outdoor play area was observed. The gate was broken on the bottom, and was easily openned. This presents a serious safety concern. Ensuring active supervision around the area where the gate was located was discussed.
Corrective action. Please ensure the entire outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of the children in care.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. During the inspection two plug covers were missing. In addition two bottles of bleach and water solution were within reach on a counter but were located behind a closed gate.
Corrective action. Please ensure a health and safe environment is provided at all times.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During the inspection the following was noted inside the facility: -several areas on the wall were observed where the drywall was exposed -several baseboards, shelves and walls were chipped -several shelves had rough edges where the wood was exposed -a bifold door was off the rails The following was observed in the outdoor play area: -a gate was only partially secured to the wall and did not close. This could present a falling hazard. The Director and I discussed the importance of providing active supervision in the area of the gate until this is fixed. She will discuss this with the staff. -
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. The following was observed inside the program: -a mat was fraying and the foam was exposed The following was observed outside in the play area: -a broken water table was missing a wheel and the wood appeared to be rotting.
Corrective action. Please ensure play materials and equipment are safely constructed.
11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation. During the inspection the water temperature was measured at 54,9 degrees celcius. This is a repeat contravention from inspections # CLAN-B95QBA and # CLAN-BBXNQK. In discussion with the Director she stated she has installed a regulator, but another staff member adjusted the water temperature last week. Active supervision is provided when washing the children's hands. The serious health and safety risk was discussed with the staff and Director.
Corrective action. Please ensure the hot water temperature does not exceed 49 degrees celcius to compley with the regulations and ensure the health and safety of children in care.
11230 - CCLR s.47 - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation. During the inspection the staff certificates were observed. One staff certificate was not posted. In discussion with the director she stated that the staff was only working temorarily since last week but she will be here for the entire month. This was corrected during the inspection.
