A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The rubber tiles were detached leaving gaps that can cause tripping hazard in the glass fenced area.
Corrective action. Manager will put the tiles together as a temporary fix. Manager said that the tiles will be replaced as a permanent fix.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the staff onsite: Indoor: dirty walls with stains, finger prints - a dead insect (fly) on the windowsill - wooden rack with knobs on the wall is not properly installed poses potential fall hazard - chipped/peeling paint on walls exposed to the children Outdoor: several broken/ jagged plastic toys accessible in the play area
Corrective action. Ensure that all areas of the facility, incl. furniture , equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

Observation. Table was not wiped and children did not wash their hands before snack/meal time.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. The following was observed: -A car set was observed in the outdoor play area where the children were playing. This could present a falling or tipping hazard. This was removed during the inspection. -A blind cord was within easy reach of the children. This was corrected during the inspection. -Two bottles of shampoo were observed in a cupboard under the sink. This was accessible to children. -Diaper cream was observed on a shelf in the classroom and in a bin with sunblock on the back of the toilet in the washroom. This was accessible to children. This was corrected during the inspection. Diaper cream being accessible is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-C3ETZD
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation. Licensing observed that the first aid kit was not taken outside to the play area during outdoor play. In addition several items are missing from the first aid kit and this must be replenished to be prepared in case of an accident or injury requiring first aid.
Corrective action. Please ensure the first aid kit is taken outside during outdoor play time and that it has sufficient supplies to be prepared in case of an accident or injury.
11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The following was observed in the outdoor play area: -A screen was partially attached to a door frame. A child was repeatedly hiding behind the screen.
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation. Licensing observed a sleep mat was placed in front of an exit. This was removed during the inspection. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-C3ETZD and #CLAN-CCJSN3
Corrective action. Please ensure no items are placed in front of an exit that may potentially block or hamper the exit in case of emergency.

Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed that 6 of the 7 children in care were in the outdoor glass fenced in play area. During the licensing process it was communicated to the Director that this glass fenced in outdoor play area is only large enough to accommodate 3 children in care. An additional onsite outdoor play area has sufficient space for 8 children in care
Corrective action. Please ensure to use the entire licensed outdoor place space or the facility capacity will be reduced. In addition please ensure to submit an outdoor play plan stating your intention to use the entire outdoor play area space when more than 3 children are in care.
10010 - CCLR s.10(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed the record of fire drills. The last routine inspection was completed in May 2022. No record of fire drills was observed for the months of June 2022-December 2022. In addition the emergency drill for 2022 was not observed. In discussion with the Director she stated these were completed but she had removed the previous year's recorded information.
Corrective action. Please ensure to keep current records of both the fire drills and emergency drills as proof of compliance with the legislation.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed that the mirrors and windows in the play areas were not clean and had streak mark and hand prints. This is a repeat contravention from inspections #CLAN-C3ETDZ and #CLAN-CCJSN3
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility equipment and fixtures are clean.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following was observed in the facility: -several electrical outlet covers were missing -only one bleach bottle was observed another bleach bottle must be used in the washroom to reduce the potential for cross contamination. -a gap between the garage and the door was observed. This could be a potential hazard. -a picnic table and a slide were placed on the enclosed outdoor area. The table was placed next to the glass walls creating a potential climbing hazard. The slide was placed within 6 feet of the glass wall. A 6 foot fall zone must be observed around the slide. In addition, Licensing observed an interaction with one of the children. A staff member had a child on their lap and they were placing a jacket on the child. While placing the child's arm in the jacket, the staff member let the child go and he fell forward twice. The staff member caught the child. Licensing spoke to the staff on site.
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is being provided at all times.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: -A window in the nap room was open. This could present a falling hazard. Window limiters are recommended to restrict the amount the window can be opened -A sharp knife was in a top drawer, this was accessible to the children -A toilet brush without a cover was located on the floor next to the toilet -The garage door right next to the play area was open. The garage contained many items including cans of paint and chemical foam. Licensing asked the staff to lock the door and the staff was not sure where the key was located. Please provide active supervision around this area until this is corrected.
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are harmful to their health and safety.

Observation. Two staff were working in the facility. One staff certificate was not posted in a prominent place.
Corrective action. Please ensure staff certificates are posted in a prominent place.
10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation. Licensing observed many staff records on site. A staff currently working at the facility did not have a record on site. In discussion with the staff member she stated she was an Early Childhood Educator and completed all of the documentation. This is a serious health and safety risk to children in care.
Corrective action. Please ensure staff records are on site and available for review prior to the staff starting work at the facility.

A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.
Observation. One staff members first aid certificate was observed as expired. She said she renewed her first aid but this was not observed on site.
Corrective action. Please ensure first aid is valid and that documentation to confirm this is available for review.

This was not corrected by the date specified on the routine inspection. If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. Items with a drug identification number (DIN) were observed in the first aid kit. This was discussed at a previous inspection and these items were still present. No signed permission forms to administer these medications were present.
Corrective action. Please ensure that any medication that may be administered to children has a signed permission form from the child's parent or guardian.
