A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following: (a) Two round tables with a plastic ring around the edges that were peeling; the glue exposed and collecting debris making it hard to sanitize (b) Instructions taped to one of the lunch/snack tables making it hard to sanitize appropriately.

Corrective action. The manager stated the following: (a) Manager removed the plastic ring and stated she will remove the glue to ensure proper sanitizing (b) Manager removed the taped instructions from the table and sanitized it to ensure no sticky residue was left behind. CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing found air freshener spray and deodorant stored on the counter in the bathroom, accessible to children.

Corrective action. The Director explained that these items will be moved and stored away from children.

Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing found a monitor, speaker and toys stored, posing a fall hazard.

Corrective action. The Director explained that the speakers will be removed as they are not used, and will secure the monitor.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing found that fire drills were not recorded for the months of April- June. The staff explained that fire drills were conducted every month, but were not recorded.

Corrective action. Please ensure that fire drills are recorded.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Upon review of 8 child file, 1 child did not have an MSP #.

Corrective action. Please ensure child files are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Upon review of 8 child files, 1 child did not have a medical practitioner listed.

Corrective action. Please ensure child files are complete.

Observation. Staff made inappropriate comments to children, asked staff not to comfort crying children, two staff yelled at children when guiding children’s behaviour.

Corrective action. Corrective action plan to be developed and submitted

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

Observation. Licensing observed that the name of the manager was not displayed.

Corrective action. Please enusre that the manager name is displayed in a prominent place within the community care facility.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Licensing reviewed 10 children's files of which 5 were missing immunization status

Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are up to date and complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. Licensing reviewed 10 children's files of which 3 were missing date of enrolment

Corrective action. Please ensure all Children's files are complete and up to date

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Licensing reviewed 10 children's files of which 3 were missing the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner.

Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete and up to date.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files of which 2 files were missing a record of the person's work history.

Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete and up to date.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files of which 2 files were missing immunization status for the employees

Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete and up to date.
