    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The baseboard heater in the downstairs area where care is currently being provided, was covered with a metal material which was hot to the touch. The nap room baseboard heater in the secondary space was uncovered. Both baseboard heaters appeared to be newly installed. Outdoor stairs to the upper floor, installed recently located in the outdoor playground gave access to children.

    Corrective action. The staff who works in the classroom placed furniture in front of the heater in the main classroom and said they had not turned on the baseboard in the other classroom.

    A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

    Observation. The licence was located on the counter on the lower level of the home, however the manager's name had not been posted.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. -A long nail with rust, and 3 long screws were sticking up from the outdoor turf accessible to children in the play area. -Inside along the exit wall there was an uncovered electrical box at children's level and a wire hanging down next to the door where children exit and enter to go outside to play. The licensee said this was not connected to electrical at this time. -A closet door was removed and leaning up against the wall, inside the closet was a bucket of paint. The closet was in the playroom accessible to children in the play area. -A mop bucket one half full of water and cleaner sitting in the areas where children play. (this was corrected during the inspection) -A cabinet was unlatched, containing a bleach spray bottle a cleaning bottle, and a light fixture which was accessible to children while they were playing. (this was corrected during the inspection)

    Corrective action. The licensee said they will correct the areas that had not yet been corrected and will provide a written response on June 24th

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. -A tall narrow cabinet in the bathroom was unsecured from the wall posing a concern for tipping over. -Two square holes in the drywall had been cut open to give access to shut off valves was accessible to children. The licensee said they had covered one hole with paper towel to prevent children access to the sprinkler shut off valve. -A ladder leaning against the wall outside in the children's play area, posing concern for tipping over while children are playing.

    Corrective action. Licensee said they will consider a plan and provide a written response.

    A licensee must ensure that children are not (c) left unsupervised while consuming food or drink.

    Observation. At licensing arrival, the licensee was outside of the facility in the driveway receiving a bag of food being delivered. Licensee said they left 4 children sitting at the table to go meet a parent delivering a child's lunch.

    Corrective action. The licensee said moving forward they will not leave children unsupervised and will consider a plan and provide a written response.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. The water was measured at 51.1 degrees Celsius at the bathroom sink.

    Corrective action. The licensee said they will reduce the temperature during the weekend.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. -Standing water in the water table had not been drained after outside time this morning. -Temporary fencing was installed outside to prevent children access to the area where renovation supplies and tools. A gap at the bottom of the fence and on the side of the fencing was identified. -One leg of the temporary fence was curled up and provided a tripping hazard for children while playing. The licensee said they will place a toy over the one foot that is located. -Nap mats were stored stacked on top of one another, sheets were on the beds, and bedding was in contact. The licensee corrected this by removing the sheets and washing the mats during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Licensee will provide a written response on or before June 6, 2024

    Observation. Licensing observed a broken window that was in reach of children in outdoor area. Licensee addressed the window with a piece of cardboard cover, after licensing brought this to the licensee's attention. Licensee said they will have the broken window repaired by June 12,2023 and repair it over the weekend when children are not in attendance.
