The manager moved the cough drops to a locked cabinet after licensing pointed out to them.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection licensing observed: -A rug that was frayed on one corner, and one chair cover appeared soiled (corrected during the inspection) -Change pad in the GCC(30m-SAC) was torn in two spots preventing easy sanitization.(Corrected during the inspection)

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): -Shelving and/or items not secured in infant room bathroom. -All three bathrooms had no "one-use" paper towels accessible in the bathroom dispenser -One bathroom had plug in air fresheners" and toilet cleaning brushes accessible to children while washing hands. -Diaper cream was accessible to children in the infant bathroom and in toddler cubbies -Small trampoline, located in the CC(36m-sac) program had no resilient surfacing below, and was showing some fraying of the protective edging. Upon review if the intended use, the manager removed this from use in the program during inspection. -Two classrooms had drawers unlocked where bags, clippers, and batteries were accessible to children while playing.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    Observation. The walls in all three classrooms showed signs of chips and damage where children had access to the dry wall. -Two change pads were observed to have visible wear and soil. These were removed from the classroom during the inspection. Manager said they will address this by May 5, 2023

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. -Licensing observed there to be no step stool accessible, or "one-use" towels for the children or staff to wash hands after bathroom routine in the Infant classroom. When asked, the manager said the children are assisted to wash hand in the classroom sink. These were corrected during inspection. -Sanitization wipes were stored on a shelf, in an unlabeled ziplock bag, next to the diaper change supplies. This was used for sanitizing the change table. This was labeled during the inspection. -Children's bedding in the toddler nap room were stored on top of another, and were touching. Licensing and manager discussed storing items separately to promote health and hygiene. Manager said they will create a system for storage.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to establish a program to instruct children in and practice rules of health and hygiene.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed sign in sheets for several dates. Record of absent children, was not recorded. This was a repeat contravention.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Storage of items in Infant nap room included, a box, and a plastic bag accessible to children while they sleep. In the toddler nap space there were storage items located next to a crib where children could reach them.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the nap rooms are free from storage items while children are using them.

    Observation. Of six staff facility files reviewed, 3 had no site specific criminal record check, and 2 had no criminal record check completed by the provincial criminal records review program.

    Corrective action. Please ensure not to employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of the manager, has first met with the person and obtained a criminal record check for the person.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During inspection the following items were observed: -Blind cords in the Multi-age classroom were accessible to children. Manager stated that they are not usually accessible, however, she had closed them when leaving to go for a walk, as licensing arrived. At that time they decided to stay in the classroom. (This was corrected during inspection). -The mop and mop bucket and sponge used for cleaning were stored in the bathroom, next to the sink, where children wash hands. -The gate in the 3-5 classroom to prevent easy access to the outdoor parking lot was removed from the wall.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under supervision.
