Observation. Licensing observed a child with an anaphylaxis care plan that included the use of Claritin and Epi Pen. The child's backpack contained both Claritin and an Epi Pen. Licensing inquired with staff what they would do when a child showed signs of an Anaphylaxis reaction and the staff replied they would administer the Epi Pen. Licensing reinforced this and informed the staff of the following: Vancouver Coastal Health does not support the use of antihistamines in a child care anaphylaxis emergency plan. Antihistamines medications should not be used instead of epinephrine for treating anaphylaxis as they have not been proven to stop an anaphylactic reaction. Epinephrine is the only treatment shown to stop an anaphylactic reaction and should be given at the start of a known or suspected anaphylactic reaction. A resource is attached to this report with further information that can be shared with parents. One child's registration form stated they used inhalers "as needed". No Asthma care plan was in place for the child, and inhalers were not on site. Staff stated they thought the inhaler was only used at home.

- LICENSING / Continuing duty to informNon-critical
Licensing has been notified immediately of any change in the information provided under Section 9 (Applying for a License). [CCLR Sec. 10(1)]
Observation. 1) In room B the Licensee used to run a parent participation program which is exempted under the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR). Currently, the Licensee is running a one and a half hour art program for 2-3 year old's. Parents do not stay with the children. The Manager informed licensing they set up several art stations for children to explore. Children bring a snack from home to consume. Upon further discussion it was agreed licensing would observe the program in action to assess if this can be considered as an exempted program under CCLR Section 3(1)(b): 3(1)Subject to subsections (2) and (2.1), the following are exempt from the Act: b)a course of activity or study for children that has the promotion of specific recreational, artistic, musical or athletic skills, or religious instruction, as its only purpose. 2) In room D the Licensee used to run a Lego program, which is no longer offered. Currently, children that are registered for 4 days in the preschool program in room B (licensed preschool) attend 2 of the 4 days in room D which is not licensed. The manager informed licensing that the 2 days they attend in room D is a "single stream science program". Similarly, Children that are registered for 1 day a week in room B (licensed preschool) attend 1 of the 2 days in room D which is not licensed. Licensing observed the program in room D. Seven children were present engaged in free play. Licensing observed toy shelves around the perimeter of the room filled with typical preschool toys and materials. There was a large sensory bin with pasta, scoops and red hearts, a book shelf, a train table and several other sensory bins set out on tables. Staff informed the licensing officer that children first participate for one our in the gym, then staff picks them up for the 2 hour program in room D. They have snack together in room D at a set time during the 2 hours. Licensing discussed the observations with the Manager and informed the Manager that licensing has assessed the current program in room D to be a regular preschool program that needs a Licence and not an exempted program under CCLR Section 3(1)(b). The following was discussed: 1) The manager will cease operation of the "single stream science program" in room D immediately and change the program to a 2 hour art program. Licencing will come and observe the art program on March 7 to assess if it can be considered as an exempted program under CCLR Section 3(1)(b): 3(1)Subject to subsections (2) and (2.1), the following are exempt from the Act: b)a course of activity or study for children that has the promotion of specific recreational, artistic, musical or athletic skills, or religious instruction, as its only purpose. To avoid future occasions of potentially running an unlawful program as is currently the case in room D, it was discussed to apply for a licence for room D. Licensing officer measured room D and it could potentially be licensed for 10 children. As there are only 2 toilets and 2 sinks available in the adjacent hallway, the total licensed capacity for rooms C and D combined could only be 20 (e.g. 10 children in room C and 10 children in room D). Due to the bathrooms being located outside in the hallway 2 staff would be required in each room to have continuous supervision and meet the needs of all children at the same time. The hallways would continue to be for exclusive uses of the licensed preschool during preschool operating hours. A playground rotation schedule would be required.

For pink shirt day the class decorated cookies and got to eat them for snack. A discussion was held with the Manager to post a list of all food allergies in the classroom.

Reviews
Been a few years since I’ve been to The Arbutus Club. Plenty of facilities; racquet courts, ice rink, gym, day spa, children’s centre, pool and studio rooms (arts & craft/fitness/music/karate/pilates). A couple of tidbits: - 5 squash courts and 12 tennis courts. Squash courts (walls) are not lively - $13.00 guest fee entry - $80K initiation fee plus monthly fees (~$350/month). New memberships are suspended - Spacious men’s locker room. Was told there’s an adults only hot tub/sauna area
Always a pleasure visiting the club. Missing the summer heat already (the pool is also calling my name), the fact it's open all year around for families of distinguished character on enlightened paths or successful hardworking families that joined prior to visiting, says a lot. The food is great, the activities and amenities are flawless and it's as if staff actually enjoy the working in a hospitality role at work—Well compensated I'm sure. Most people around here tend to be as kind as a button and/or appreciate the hard work or a knowing of the daily grind. I can't wait for lawn bowling next year too! *If anyone at the club knows if they might be interested in some cheerleaders at their next event, let me know. I know a few people with some amazing talents. Until next time Arbutus...Keep shining and always be safe!
Went there for the annual Grapes and Hops event. Super fun. Highly recommend- not always available to the public (members and member-invited only) but worth checking out if you get a chance.
It is really nice, quiet private community, they are membership. There are swimming pool, GYM, soccer playground, basketball playground, meeting room , party room , studying room etc many functional places. One of my friends is their member, she invited me to have lunch here. I ordered salad, tase fresh and good. Environment looks Tranquil and serene. Quite suitable for family, friends or company gatherings here. Worthy to go. As my friend told me membership is expensive, she wait 4 years to be formal members.
