  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Some of the plastic rides and push cars in the outdoor play area have developed a buildup of green algae over time. These items require a thorough deep cleaning to maintain hygiene standards. - It was observed that children's jackets were being stuffed into a single cubicle slot rather than being kept separately. This practice can contribute to the spread of infection and illness, and it is important that personal items are stored individually such as individual cubbies. - Standing water and debris were found on the plastic turtle cover at the outdoor play area, which poses potential health and safety risks. A reminder to cover up the sandbox overnight to prevent access by animals.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

There is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(b)]

Observation. The emergency preparedness supplies were observed to be insufficient to meet the needs of the children and licensee for a minimum of 72 hours. Additionally, some supplies were found to be expired. The licensee stated that a reorder has been placed.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

The licensee has written parental consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness, in cases where the parent cannot immediately be reached. [CCLR Sec. 57(3)(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed some Emergency Cards were incomplete: - Emergency contact information for releasing a child to someone other than the parent - Care care information - Signatures from both parents and staff

  • STAFFING / Character and skill requirementsNon-critical

Records of staff's work histories have not been obtained. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)(c)]

Observation. During today's inspection, it was noted that a substitute staff member was present to cover for the Licensee’s medical appointment. However, the staff file was incomplete, as the staff member’s work histories (resume) have not been obtained.

  • STAFFING / Character and skill requirementsNon-critical

Employees employed as early childhood educators or assistants hold the appropriate certificates issued under Division 2, which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [Employee Qualifications].  [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]

Observation. Staff certifications have not been verified through the ECE Registry website.

  • STAFFING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

The emergency plan is not practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(c)]

Observation. Fire drills have been conducted and recorded monthly. However, the last emergency drill was performed and documented in February 2025.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL / Health and HygieneNon-critical

There is an established program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. [CCLR Sec. 46(1)]

Observation. Licensing observed one hand towel hanging in the bathroom that was used by all children in care to dry their hands. No single use paper towels or washcloths were present. The caregiver informed licensing they used to have single use paper towels. Children would put them in the toilet leading to a clogged toilet. A discussion was held to use single use washcloths to avoid cross contamination.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. 1) The lock on the bifold door to the furnace room was broken. 2) Licensing officer observed one child empty the potty into the toilet after use. Licensing officer mentioned the observation to the caregiver and inquired about the potty cleaning practices. The caregiver responded the child is the only person using the potty and it gets washed at the end of the day.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]
