A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

Observation. Licensing observed the following: *QUAT spray bottle available for disinfecting surfaces. *bungee cords being placed securely around the planters hanging off the loft area- good. *electrical cords securely anchored - inaccessible to children - good. -Outdoor: *the shared outdoor wooden shed showing signs of water damage. A representative of the Licensee informed that the rain/water has been leaking inside the shed and directly onto the play materials. Currently, a large blue tarp is placed under the roof in order to redirect/prevent the rain from falling directly onto the play materials and the emergency supplies. Given the rainy season ahead and a potential mold issue, a discussion took place regarding finding a permanent solution to address the leaking issue. Licensing was informed that the City of Vancouver has been notified regarding this matter however the work/repair is still pending.

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

Observation. Overall the yard is in satisfactory condition. There is one panel that moves upon contact and one railing in the middle of the panel that is very loose. The panel is the second from the left, facing north. Appears the solder is gone at the top of the railing and the panel needs tightening. Observed the children really wanted to dig and mix. Opportunities to engage in sensory play with natural elements are limited, i.e., mud and sand. Children kept going to the earth by the vegetation near the shed to scoop up earth for mixing. Staff had to redirect as the earth in that planter had a manure mix. Staff responded to children's desire to mix by providing water in a jug and bucket. However both staff indicated they were challenged by the lack of sensory play opportunities in the yard. CCLO remembers the previous yard with the large sand box that children spent many hours in. This is an opportune time to consider revisiting how mud/ sand could be introduced into the yard.
