- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical
The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. LO observed that the space used by this group is shared with the school (music room). Due to this, equipment is typically put away each day and set up prior to children being in care. This will add to wear and tear, with some areas needing to be address by the school as well as the facility. The following areas of concern were noted: - fabric couches are stained / non-fabric couch is peeling - Pillars in the room have mats around them for safety, these mats are ripped with strings and foam exposed - area rugs are curling at the corners (tripping hazard) due to constant rolling - shelving, walls, and other furniture is peeling or wearing and showing signs of wear and tear that would be unable to be sanitized
- RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical
The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]
Observation. Children's files were reviewed and some were missing the following items: - emergency contact (in addition to parents) - the program uses a card in /out system. While LO was on site the system did not track a staff checking in, and upon review of sign in and out on computer some children had no time noted for arrival.
- STAFFING / Character and skill requirementsNon-critical
Prior to employing staff the manager has met with each person and has obtained the appropriate documentation. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)]
Observation. Staff files are complete, with the exception of reference do not appear to be documented, therefore, LO was unable to determine if and when they were completed.
- STAFFING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical
Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]
Observation. There appears to be a system to practice fire drills and earthquake drills, but February 2026 no fire drill was conducted. It was also discussed that the program can practice any type of Emergency drill at least one time annually. With this emergency drill, it is important to have a secondary location that is appropriate and safe depending on weather and environment. I would also recommend your plan include how you will inform parents if you have to evacuate to a secondary location.
