    There is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(b)]

    Observation. Fire extinguisher is current in its servicing, due in May 2026. There are emergency supplies and comfort kits provided by each family upon enrolment, stored in a bin in the storage space. Manager informs that a newly enrolled child has not brought in their supplies yet. Conversation was had in regards to the importance of having emergency preparedness supplies that will be sufficient for all children in care and staff.

    The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

    Observation. Licensing observed children's files to be incomplete for one child who newly enrolled. Manager was then able to locate the existing forms filled on the computer prior to this report being written. A reminder that all children must have complete records prior to their start in care, and Manager is encouraged to double check all information present in the binder and accessible to staff providing care. In addition, one child was missing an immunization status, and one child was missing a medical practitioner information.

  • MEDICATION / MedicationNon-critical

    Medications that staff have agreed to administer are readily accessible to staff and are administered in the correct dosage at the correct times. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)]

    Observation. Registration forms for one child note that and epi-pen is required for their allergies. Manager and staff were not aware of this medication, and informs they do not have it on site. Licensing notes the importance of clarification and obtaining of life saving medication. Manager will be following up with the parents upon pick up, as it is late in the afternoon and pick up time soon.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

    A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

    Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection: - Used tissue paper was left out on top of the cubbies, as well as kitchen counter space, washroom counter, and on the ledges of the outdoor space. There is a hygiene and health concern of bacteria and germ spreading. - There is no sanitizing agent available for the activity room or the eating area. Soap bottles are available for cleaning. - There is no cleaning solution available for the washroom. A bottle of bleach solution was available. Discussion was had with Manager of the facility, that a two step cleaning and sanitizing process is important in all areas of the facility. Keeping separate sets of spray bottles will mitigate any risk of cross contamination from diaper changing/washroom to areas used for play and eating. - Manager informs that one towel is used to wipe the washroom counter throughout the day. Discussion was had with the Manager of the facility, the risk of cross contamination and bacteria of towels that are not one use. - Child lock was not engaged, with the storage closet door slightly open directly outside the children's washroom. There are Educator's personal items inside, along with other storage items. This also poses a potential pinching concern. - Children's mats used for sleeping are placed very close to each other, resulting in some of the items touching, and not kept separate. - There is no display of temperature available in the refrigerator, and staff are unaware of whether the refrigerator is kept under 4 degrees Celsius. A conversation was had with the Manager, regarding the importance of monitoring the temperature especially when all children bring their own foods and milk to be stored.

    Hazardous objects and substances are inaccessible to children. [CCLR Sec 17]

    Observation. Licensing observed the following during inspection: - A container of "Lysol" wipes were placed on a low table in the eating area, and reachable by children. A reminder that these wipes are not to replace the cleaning and sanitizing that is required. - There is a fan/air purifier that is placed on the floor of the nap room. A loose cord is seen to be dangling directly next to a sleep mat used by a child, which can be a potential entanglement hazard. A conversation was had with the facility manager in regards to relocation this equipment to somewhere not accessible to children. Manager informs that they will take this fan out for now as it is primarily used for ventilation purposes, and turn on the central air conditioning until they have a solution for if they must continuing using the fan/purifier.

The following was observed during the inspection: - Fire extinguisher is current in its servicing - Emergency supplies are available for each child, provided by the families. - Emergency supplies are stored in a bin, that was stacked in the large storage area underneath many items including a small trampoline, preventing easy access.

    Observation. A child requiring life saving medication does not have a developed care plan.

    Observation. Licensing observed missing pieces of information in children's files including start dates and immunization status. Several forms note that a record of immunizations are attached, however these are not found.

    All persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present on the premises while children are present are of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for each person. [CCLR Sec 20]

    Observation. Unable to locate valid criminal record check for one staff.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]

    Observation. One staff did not have a verification of their ECE certificate.

  • STAFFING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

    Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

    Observation. Fire drills have not been conducted since opening in July. Fire drills should be completed every month. A reminder that the minimum requirement is to practice the emergency plan at least once a year, however, more should be done if necessary in order to prepare for emergency situations. The implementation of the emergency drill also does not replace the monthly fire drill.
