  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The garden pathway surrounding the sandbox requires thorough clearing, maintenance, and re-seeding of grass. The protective landscape fabric under the glass panel has become exposed, creating an uneven surface that requires cleaning and repair. - The sandbox sand level is significantly low, causing the underlying landscape fabric to become exposed and creating a potential play hazard. - The tree adjacent to the sandbox has died, leaving the area without adequate shade. This issue was noted during the previous inspection. While management stated a shade sail would be provided, however no sun protection has been provided at today's inspection, leaving children to play in the sandbox under direct sunlight. - The water hose outlet located next to the sandbox was found unlocked and accessible to children. - Adequate protective wood chip surfacing must be distributed around under the slide to ensure falling risk. - A section of the artificial turf is no longer intact, creating a gap that poses a direct tripping hazard to children. - A playground bench is broken and missing one wooden plank. - Visible mold growth accompanied by a musty odor was observed on the shelving within the outdoor storage shed. While this area is restricted from children's direct access, however the staff uses this space to store outdoor toys, sensory table, and emergency supplies etc. Storing these items in a contaminated environment introduces a potential health risk to the children who interact with them. Area to be monitor: Structural gaps / cracks have developed in several wooden posts and logs. These gaps must be monitored closely; any increase in gap size will create a potential finger-pinching hazard for children.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Care PlansNon-critical

For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

Observation. One child care plan was identified as incomplete - an outdated medication expiration date that had not been updated.
