There was no information on site what the Benadryl was intended for. The child also had an Asthma care plan in place and had inhalers on site. Licensing inquired with both the current manager and the previous interim manager if they knew if the child was diagnosed as Anaphylactic and required an Epi Pen, where the Epi Pen would be kept and what the Benadryl was used for. The current manager, who is new to the program and the previous interim manager did not know and were unable to provide any clarification. The child only attends in the mornings.

- CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION / Group Sizes and Employee to Children RatiosNon-critical
Children are adequately supervised by qualified employees in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of each child. [CCLR Sec. 34(1)]
Observation. At today's inspection there were 4 staff present. It was observed that 1 staff had to leave the room to supervise 5 or 6 children (LO did not count, staff reported) this left 1 staff with more than 12 children in the main activity room. Although the staff working meets licensing requirements the supervision needs was not met as per Section 34(1) It was observed that the 1 staff(new Manager) left in the activity room was trying to contact parents of children who are regularly enrolled on this day but not present, try to supervise the room where a child who has higher supervision needs was having increasing dysregulated behaviour, a grandparent arrived looking for grandchild and staff were not clear where the child was (was located in bathroom) and the ability of the to use the walkie-talkies to communicate with other staff by the new Manager was limited.

- MEDICATION / MedicationNon-critical
Medications that staff have agreed to administer are readily accessible to staff and are administered in the correct dosage at the correct times. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)]
Observation. 2 children have an anaphylactic allergy that requires an Epi-pen. The Epi-pens are valid and kept in the first aid kit that travels with the child depending where they are in the facility. These pens expire in Sept and Oct 2024..ensure replaced before expiry The parents must update the Action Epi-pen form for 2024/25 school year. 2 children with Asthma have Action Plans and medication. The parents must update the Action Asthma form for 2024/25 school year...if there are no changes the parent can score through the old date and write September 2024 and initial. Care Plans must be updated yearly 1 child (J) with an anaphylactic allergy that requires an Epi-pen has Reactine antihistamine tablets in their medication bag. As outlined in the Life Threatening Anaphylactic allergy Plan antihistamines must not be given if a child requires an Epi-pen. Return this medication to the parent. It should be noted that the parent does not include this medication on the Life Threatening Anaphylactic allergy Plan but it is in the bag. This raises the risk of staff administering a medication that is not listed by the parent/or permitted for anaphylactic allergies.
