- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical
The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]
Observation. Licensing observed the following: 1) The metal entrance gate to the facility was not properly closed upon entering. The gate was not functioning properly and needed to be lifted up or pushed very hard to lock in place. The screws that secured the gate hinges to the stone post were loose on one side causing the gate to sag. 2) The sand in the sandbox was very low and requires topping off.
- RECORDS AND REPORTING / Care PlansNon-critical
For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]
Observation. Licensing observed the following: 1) One child with an Epi Pen care plan also had Benadryl on site. Licensing inquired with the manager what the Benadryl was used for. The manager informed licensing that the parent had advised staff to first administer Benadryl at the sight of an allergic reaction and only use the Epi Pen if the allergic reaction progressed. A discussion was held with the manager regarding the following VCH guidelines: Epinephrine is the first line medication which should be used for the emergency management of a person having a potentially life threatening allergic reaction. Antihistamines (e.g. Benadryl) should not be used instead of epinephrine for treating anaphylaxis. The manager should discuss the above with the parents and advise them of the VCH guidelines. A letter to inform the parents is attached with this inspection report. 2) One child's care plan indicated that their Epi Pen expired January 2026. Staff stated that the child only comes for extended hours and brings the Epi Pen back and forth between home and childcare.

Licensing was informed that the yard was blocked off to remove bamboo that was deemed hazardous. It appeared that the bamboo has been removed but the space was still blocked off. Licensing observed a children's play house in the outdoor play space. Sections of the plastic in the entry way to the play house are broken and appeared sharp. This poses as a hazard.

Reviews
Our daughter attended this daycare (Oak, upstairs) from 1yr4months and stayed until she aged out at 3 years old. Shoko and Liz stayed with her the entire time she was there, with other amazing teachers coming and going. We felt so safe leaving our daughter the first time to strangers. We always receive a verbal report at the end of the day, and receive many photos to show how her day went. Both these things really helped us put our mind at ease. The teachers takes in special requests if feasible and would support us any way they can. We went through many growth phases and the teachers guided us along the way. My daughter would talk about her teachers at home all the time. She would want to go back to daycare as soon as we got in the car. We fully recommend this daycare. Emily (admin) was informative and helpful with all our emails. We miss them so much!
We could not have been happier with Little Munchkins Oak; our sweet girl was there for just over a year and she had the best time. The teachers (Susan, Chiaki, Ginny, Dayun) were so loving, fun, and warm and made this tough transition much easier for my daughter and us. They went above and beyond to celebrate little milestones and holidays. We will miss them so much!!! The manager, Emily, was also very responsive via email and very kind. If you are lucky enough to get a spot at Little Munchkins Oak, don't blink!
Our daughter attended Little Munchkin Oak (Upstairs Class) from July 2024 to August 2025. We really enjoyed seeing her daily updates and photos through the app and watching her play with her friends. She was always happy to see her teachers and friends. At pick up she is excited to show us what arts and crafts they made and what they learned. The teachers have been extremely kind and caring and always open to supporting parents. Snacks are provided and we opted for the lunch program which was one less thing to think about. We are moving onto the next daycare for 3-5 years old and will truly miss Little Munchkin and highly recommend to anyone considering! Thank you again Shoko, Liz, Dayun and Chiaki
Little Munchkins has been an absolute blessing for our family. From the very first day, it felt like a second home for our daughter Gala. The love, care, and attention she received from Susan, Jiny, and Chiaki were truly exceptional. Their warmth, patience, and dedication have played such an important role in her early development—and gave us, as parents, incredible peace of mind. As our daughter prepares to transition to a new daycare at age 3, we’re filled with gratitude for the beautiful foundation Little Munchkins has given her. We’ll miss the team dearly—especially our daughter. Thank you for creating such a nurturing, safe, and joyful environment every single day. You’ll always hold a special place in our hearts 💕
