  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. The manager informed licensing that they no longer use a bleach water sanitizer solution and only use soap and water to clean the furniture, tables, and toys. They only use bleach water sanitizer solution for the change table. The decision to no longer use sanitizer was made as a child in care was sensitive to the bleach. Licensing discussed that sanitizing remains part of the daily/regular cleaning routine to maintain a healthy and safe environment. Licensing discussed to use an alternate sanitizer that is suitable instead of bleach. Sanitizers other than bleach can be used, however they must be suitable for the intended use, especially on food contact surfaces. They must also be approved by Health Canada as a disinfectant with a registered DIN (Drug Identification Number), and be used as directed on the label. If you have a product other than bleach that you would like to use you can search for the product on the following Health Canada database: https://health-products.canada.ca/dpd-bdpp/index-eng.jsp Once you have successfully located your product it can now be used in your program - please read the entire label on the product, and use it exactly as stated on the label. • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

Observation. Licensing observed the following: *a broken door knob located in the main gate. *no soap/water spray bottles for cleaning surfaces. *no bleach/water spray bottles for disinfecting surfaces. *soiled diapers being stored in a trash bin with no cover- accessible to children. *did not observe staff cleaning and disinfecting a diaper changing mat after diapering. *did not observe staff cleaning and disinfecting the table after snack time. *a car garage door left unlocked - discussed with the manager, this door needs to be locked at all times when care is being provided. • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor space: *1 broken ride on toy *1 broken rocking horse toy - tape was applied to cover the sharp edges. *a single slide with steps being placed adjacent to the water table and other ride-on toys. - This slide appeared wobbly and unstable should a child stand on the highest point of the slide. The manager informed that supervision and close proximity are provided when children are using this slide. Discussed about providing 6 feet clearances around the slide/ climbable play structure as the placement of the slide could pose a safety hazard in the event that a child falls off the slide. Licensing observed the following in the indoor play space: *the youngest child in a high chair with straps during snack time - Discussed with the manager, the child must be free out of the high chair as soon as the child is finished eating. Leaving a child strapped in a high chair can be seen as a physical restraint. *Infant and toddler sized wooden chairs with straps - Discussed with the manager, straps cannot be used to secure a child in a chair. Strapping children in a chair is not considered age and developmentally appropriate and this can be seen as a physical restraint.

Licensing observed only 2 sets of emergency supplies for 2 children while the rest of the emergency supplies have not yet been obtained.
