Health & safety record
No critical violations on record. 5 non-critical findings noted since 2021.
May 15, 2026Routine2 non-critical
- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical
The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. While there is regular cleaning through out the facility, there are areas that require addressing such as the low window stills have screws that are not flush and there are scuffs and marks around the entire space. There are also areas of the half wall from the kitchen to the room that requires some repair, and the nap room is showing signs of wear and tear throughout with the walls requiring cleaning/painting/repair. The sliding door for the closet has a top rail that is not fully attached to the ceiling.
- RECORDS AND REPORTING / Care PlansNon-critical
For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]
Observation. There are care plans available but not all are updated annually.

- MEDICATION / MedicationNon-critical
Medications that staff have agreed to administer are readily accessible to staff and are administered in the correct dosage at the correct times. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)]
Observation. Children with Asthma do not have an Asthma Action Plan posted. The puffer medication is kept in the first aid kit. Children with Epi-pens for Anaphylaxis have an Life Threatening Action Plan posted. The Epi-pens are kept in the first aid kit. As discussed with the Manager there could be confusion in the event of an anaphylactic reaction as to where the first aid kit/Epi-pens are. It is recommended to post a poster with Epi-pens stored here and keep the Epi-pens with the Allergy Action plan eg: in a small zip lock bag
- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Furniture, Equipment and FixturesNon-critical
Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]
Observation. The Manager reported that bedding is not taken off cots after nap. Storing children's bedding in separate containers and separate from cots/ mats helps to prevent the transmission of viruses and bug friends such as head lice.
- RECORDS AND REPORTING / Notification of illness or injuryNon-critical
Licensing is notified within 24 hours after a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H or has a reportable communicable disease. [CCLR Sec.55(2)(a)(b)]
Observation. The LO and Manager had a long discussion about children who are displaying Aggressive/Unusual Behaviour which has not been appropriately assessed in the(a) child's care plan. The Manager reported that the YMCA has a staff person who assists staff if there is a child who may require extra support/changes to daily schedule etc. There appears to be a lack of a full understanding between the facility staff/Manager and the YMCA staff person who supports staff about when an Incident report should be submitted to Licensing for children who are displaying Aggressive/Unusual Behaviour. This also applies to a lack of full understanding about when to approach parents about the behaviour and suggesting community referrals for the child and staff.
