Observation. Due to when the child care facility was licensed, only one toilet and one hand sink is available for the infant program. The same is provided for the toddler program. Licensing Officer observed an outside canopy with a damaged glass panel to the left of the outside door of the toddler program. Also observed some sort of residue seeping from the canopy area located above the outside door of the infant program. This residue appears to be lifting the paint and has dripped down onto a lower ledge which is accessible to children. The lower ledge surfacing appears to be eroding away. Licensing Officer observed toys in the infant program's diaper change sink. A bottle of dish soap was also present. When asking about this, Licensing Officer was informed that toys which are mouthed are cleaned in this sink; that the Educators do not use this sink to wash their hands or bathe a child, rather the toddler program's diaper change sink is used instead. Licensing Officer discussed the purpose of the diaper change sink - for Educators' to wash their hands, to bathe infant children (if necessary) - and that the same is replicated for the toddler program's portion of the shared bathroom. In order to prevent illness-infection, Licensing Officer informed of the importance to no longer clean toys in this diaper change sink and identified the sink located in the main program space could be used for this purpose. Licensing Officer was informed that a staff meeting is planned for tonight and this change will be communicated to the Educators in both programs.

- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical
All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]
Observation. In the outdoor space, LO observed the following: -the wood on the wooden stage area appears to be worn and not in good repair. -the raised wooden platform appears to have rotting planks where certain planks are dipping. Manager advised that there is a plan in place to replace the rotting planks. -the green artificial turf is lifting and has come away from the concrete posing a tripping hazard. -a black rubber floor mat appears to be in poor repair. There are sections of the mat where the rubber appears to have been picked off. This poses a concern with regards to a choking hazard if a child were to ingest a rubber piece.

- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical
A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Today's inspection revealed long blind chains attached to the blinds in the two nap areas are not adequately secured to prevent head entrapment. There is a winding hook installed but it is not large enough to allow the full cord to be wound up. As discussed with the Manager and Program Manager these chains must be immediately secured and a alternate securing mechanism must be installed.
