  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Family Child Care Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Areas designated for use by children meet the minimum requirements of Group Child Care (i.e. 3.7m² per child usable floor area, 6m² per child of outdoor play area).  [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Family Child Care (4)].

Observation. Licensing observed shelving located in the kitchen - bedroom area. The Licensee informed that they were in the process of selling them. Licensing observed the single bed mattress / box frame stored in the middle bedroom where children are to rest / nap and also play. As agreed to during the licensing process due to the amount of usable floor space needed for children's play and rest, this single bed mattress / box frame is not to be in place. Rather, only the mattress and stored in a manner that does not impede access to the usable floor space. The Licensee informed that it will be addressed. Licensing observed a bedroom that is used for children's sleep as without a space to setup a portable crib and have it be free of any hazards which may fall on a sleeping child. The Licensee informed that they would address the manner in which the bedroom is arranged and provide a safe sleep environment for children. Licensing observed items stored on high surfaces (ie stereo) and low surfaces (ie beauty products) which may pose an injury to children. The Licensee informed that they will address these as well.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Furniture, Equipment and FixturesNon-critical

Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]

Observation. Children's bedding were stored bundled together and not individually so as to prevent the spread of illness.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. The Licensee informed that outside play space safety checks are occurring and prior to children being permitted to play in the environment. During today's inspection, no documentation was in place to account for those inspections, as required. The Licensee informed that they will put that in place moving forward.

  • STAFFING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

Observation. The Licensee informed that the annual emergency preparedness drill will be practiced soon. As a reminder, this annual drill involves following the Licensee's procedures where children are evacuated to the designated area and where the emergency preparedness supplies are taken. The Licensee informed that monthly fire drills are being practiced however with exception to the drill that occurred in January 2025, no others are documented.
