  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Hazardous Objects and SubstancesNon-critical

Hazardous objects and substances are inaccessible to children. [CCLR Sec 17]

Observation. Licensing observed the following: * sharp knives present in an accessible kitchen drawer (compliance achieved during inspection) * a lighter present in an accessible bathroom drawer (compliance achieved during inspection) * a kitty litter box is accessible in the bathroom * scissors observed in a desk drawer in the bedroom * heavy items stored on top of a cabinet in the dining room - may cause an injury during an earthquake An electric cooktop appliance was observed located on the kitchen counter: although it was not in use during the inspection, its proximity to the counter edge allows it to be accessible to children. Licensing observed a diffuser operating in the living room with its cord accessible to the children. LO inquired about the essential oil that was being used and was informed by the Licensee that it was lavender. Because some essential oils can be toxic to children if ingested, and because the diffuser's cord was accessible, the diffuser and its cord are to be placed inaccessible to children. The Licensee relocated it during the inspection. Prior to leaving with the Licensee and children for their morning activities, LO observed the diffuser operating and returned to its originally observed location. Licensing observed a desk drawer in the bedroom housing scissors amongst various items. A discussion occurred with the Licensee about evaluating the contents of drawers in the desk as well as the storage unit in the bedroom - specific to safety.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. The Licensee informed that due to water damage, a log is not in place to document inspections of outside play spaces.
