    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Several areas of the facility walls are showing signs of wear and chipping paint, accessible to children.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Upon discussion of Infant/Toddler program staffing, it was confirmed that there are not enough IT qualified staff at closing time in all IT programs. Additionally, care types sometimes combine at the end of the day, however, on some of those days there are more than 8 children present when programs are combined.

    Corrective action. Discussed Schedule E, absent employee section and group sizes and employee to children ratio section of the legislation.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following during today's inspection; - Bedding were stored in a manner in two classrooms that it was touching and posing a risk of cross contamination. -Storage closet doors in two classrooms need to secured from preventing finger pinching.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the systems to store bedding in manner that is safe and healthy for children. Asst. Manager said that they will fix the closet locks to secure the closet doors.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following were observed during today's inspection; - Garbage bags stored under the sink were accessible to children - A basketball hoop in 3-5 outdoor play area was broken and held together with tape. The tape was coming off and posing risk of germ contamination.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided to children while in care.

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed that in 3-5 classroom a child requiring an Epi-pen did not have one present at the facility. The manager said that the Epi-pen was sent home with the family as it was expired and the family had not returned a new Epi-pen.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to follow the directions provided in the care plan and medication is readily accessible for staff to administer when needed.

    Observation. Review of 4 staff files observed one staff was missing ECE validation on file.

    Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete.
