    Observation. New staff failed to pick up a child from school on a day in September, and there was no written transportation policy to guide staff when transporting children.

    Corrective action. The manager has created a new out-of-school-care transportation policy and procedure, and held a meeting with staff to communicate the policy. No further action is required.

    Observation. The walls in the preschool classroom have paint chipping in the multiple spots. There was TV cords loosely lying on the floor posing tripping and other safety hazard.

The following were noted at today's inspection: -Flat screen TV on a shelf is not secured and could be a topple hazard. -Large cabinet is no secured to the wall and could act as a topple hazard. -Step ladder stored against the wall could act as a topple hazard (discussed either securing to wall or not making accessible).

    Observation. Upon review of staff files, it was noted that there is a staff who works as a responsible adult and had provided their transcript from 2017 to show their hours to meet the 20 hours according to section 29 (c) of the Child Care Licensing Regulation. Upon review of the transcript, LO could not determine whether the staff had the full 20 hours of training within the subjects set out in section 29. LO spoke with this staff and they advised that they have completed more schooling and they likely have the 20 hours required under section 29. They stated that they would obtain an updated transcript to show that they have the 20 hours of training in child development, guidance, health and safety and nutrition.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that staff have completed the 20 hours of training according to section 29 and please ensure that proof of completion of the 20 hours if available for review in order for Licensing to confirm compliance.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the paint on the walls of the facility was chipped in several areas and the paint was peeling off the walls exposing white underlay.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the facility furniture, equipment and fixtures are in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing noted the following items accessible to children: -An open box of Borax in an unsecured cupboard under the sink in Room 150. -A box containing contact lens solution in an unsecured cupboard under the sink in Room 150.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed that there were 2 staff members present with 13 children in the Preschool classroom. Upon discussion with the Manager, it was noted that one of the staff members was a responsible adult and was in the process of getting their credentials transferred through the ECE Registry. Licensing provided Education on child to staff ratio as per schedule E and discussed the possibility of applying for a staffing exemption.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the ratio of employee to children attending the facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E of Child Care Regulation.
