    Observation. A doll house in the small playroom/nap area need to be secured from falling over while children are sleeping or sitting around.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that they are removing the playhouse to replace it with a small one.

  • OR SUPERVISION

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. There are three children under 36 months registered in the program including one child who is 28 months old which does not meet the group size requirements in Schedule E of the Child Care Licensing Regulations.

    Corrective action. Ensure to meet the requirements of Schedule E of the Child Care Licensing Regulations at all times.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. The facility uses a staff qualifications/documentation checklist, as staff files are kept off site. At the time of the inspection Licensing reviewed the checklist for the four staff members on site. As per the checklist, one staff did not have evidence that a criminal record check had been completed.

    Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete, and if a checklist is used it is up to date at all times.

    Observation. The facility uses a staff qualifications/documentation checklist, as staff files are kept off site. The document does not include a column to confirm that Early Childhood Education certificates are verified through the early childhood registry.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. Some pieces of equipment is showing some wear and tear: -Sleeping mats are taped at corners with duct tape, making them difficult to clean and sanitize (repeat). -Play kitchen and play fridge has some areas of exposed wood where melamine has chipped off, making the equipment difficult to clean.

    Corrective action. Please ensure furniture and equipment is easy to clean and in good repair.

    Observation. The facility hasn't practiced their emergency drill in over a year. Records indicate that the last emergency drill was conducted in July of 2019.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that emergency drills are conducted on a yearly basis.
