The following were observed during today's inspection; -A long rectangular panel in the outdoor yard was exposing large nails. -The step on the top of large yellow slide was rusty and broken from corner showing sharp edges. - The latch on yard gate leading to the driveway is broken. It is posing a risk for children accidentally wandering on the street.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed outside in the children's playground: -Two rodent bait stations are accessible to children behind the shed. This is a repeat violation from the routine inspection done on February 1, 2023 -There is a rusty piece of metal protruding on the bar that is at the top of the climber -There is exposed, twisted, sharp and rusty wires attached to the climbing frame that are easily accessible to children. An attempt to cover the wires was made but have become exposed -An entire fence panel has come away from the post and is being held up with string and a pipe cleaner -One panel of the fence has several pieces missing leaving an exposed space. This has been covered by plastic. -One panel of the fence has a piece that is rotting and rough. This has been covered by plastic. -One slat of wood in the deck is broken leaving an exposed area -The above three areas are repeat violations from the routine inspection done on February 1, 2023. The following was observed inside: -Incense sticks in a bottle with liquid inside was on the window sill of the children's washroom. It was removed during the inspection -A TV in the naproom sits on a shelving unit and appears unsteady

    Corrective action. The Manager explained that she has tried to address and fix some of the above areas but is not able to do it in a permanent way. She will be following up with the Licensee to discuss all the areas. An alternate plan for outdoor play time is to be submitted until the above critical hazards can be addressed. Due to the nature of the critical hazards in the outdoor playground, it cannot be accessed by children.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed in the outdoor play ground: -tri color see saw is broken and the exposed broken ends have been covered with rubber kitchen gloves attached with string -the wooden seat in the boat is rotting , exposing broken wood and has been covered with tape and plastic that is ripping away -the wood is rotting and paint is chipping throughout different areas of the climber -the outdoor lights attached to the fence posts are broken with some exposed sharp screw ends and broken plastic. Most were removed at the time of inspection -the bars that are on both sides of the ramp that lead to the top of the climber are not secure and in poor repair. They have been wrapped in plastic and taped but the plastic is ripping all along the bars -a panel of the soffit in the undercover area has detached and is being held up with pieces of plastic ribbon

    Corrective action. The Manager explained that she has tried to address and fix some of the above areas but is not able to do so in a permanent way. She will be following up with the Licensee to discuss all areas.

    Observation. One staff working does not have a site specific cleared criminal record check on file. This is a repeat contravention from the routine inspection done on February 1, 2023.

    Corrective action. Information provided to the Manager regarding the requirement of site specific cleared criminal record checks. The manager stated she will follow up with the Licensee.

    Observation. One staff's ECE certificate expired on June 5, 2023.

    Corrective action. The staff explained they have applied to the ECE Registry to renew their certificate but have not received a new one yet. The staff stated they will follow up with the ECE Registry. Applying for an exemption in the meantime was discussed and the staff will submit an application.

    Observation. The following was observed indoors: -There are numerous walls where the paint is chipping and the drywall is exposed. This is a repeat contravention. The following was observed outdoors: -There are numerous fence boards that are rotten and breaking away from the main panel boards. -There are boards on the wooden decking at the back of the play yard that are rotting and need to be replaced.

    Corrective action. Ensure the facility is in good repair.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Bleach, bathroom cleaner stored underneath the bathroom sink, accessible to children. Manager stated that there was a child lock but one of the door handles had come off so the lock could not be used. substances were removed during the inspection. This contravention was noted in the last routine inspection.

    Observation. The wood structure flooring within the outdoor play space (wood platforms, wood play structure) is very slippery when wet from algae growth. Manager stated that they don't go outside when it is raining as those areas become slippery. Discussion had with Manager in regard to requirement for daily outdoor play.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that outdoor equipment is free from hazards and in good repair.
