• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Fire extinguisher has not been serviced in over a year.

  Corrective action. Please ensure facility is able to mitigate, respond and recover from an emergency.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. LO was unable to confirm compliance with Emergency drill for 2021 as the record was removed from the facility and could not be reviewed. LO to email a fire/emergency drill log.

  Corrective action. Please ensure records respecting compliance for fire drill and emergency drill are kept on site in order to confirm compliance.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. While on site, the following was noted: -Paint on the window sill is chipping, some areas on the wall where paint has also started to chip. -Gate at entrance is difficult to latch.

  Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

  Observation. A child who has an allergy and has medication on site for the allergy does not have a care plan. Discussion had with the Licensee about creating a care plan with the parent should the child develop an allergic reaction while at the facility. Discussion had around requirement to review yearly for changes, etc.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a complete care plan with a clear course of action is created for children who require extra support.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. One staff file was missing notation to indicate that references were checked.

  Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. Staff who recently updated their ECE Certificate has not yet shown proof of verification for the new certificate.

  Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete.
