Observation. Garden areas in the outdoor play space where children play have not been maintained and are overgrown with weeds, many of which are prickly to the touch.
Corrective action. Licensee will develop and submit a corrective action plan.

- A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.
Observation. The facility did not notify the licensing officer that a child was involved in or may have been involved in a reportable incident as described in Schedule H as required.
Corrective action. The facility is required to submit a response to licensing as to how the facility will ensure reportable incidents are reported to licensing promptly in the future.
19030 - CCLR s.55(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that a child, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, is not subjected to any of the following: (a) shoving, hitting or shaking by an employee or another child, or confinement or physical restraint by another child.
Observation. A staff member shook a child in care, and, aditionally, pulled and yelled at children regularly.
Corrective action. The facility is required to submit a response to licensing as to how the facility will ensure measures have been taken to ensure children's safety.

Observation. Licensing reviewed five staff files. Two files did not contain a site specific criminal record check for the employees.
Corrective action. The Manager confirmed that the facility will appy for shared criminal record checks within one week.

Observation. Cleaning supplies are stored in the classrooms under the sink and accessible to the children in care.
Corrective action. Ensure that cleaning supplies are not accessible to the children.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. A log on the PreK outdoor playground has a large nail sticking out that could cause a potential hazard to children playing in the area. The picket fence posts on all of the outdoor playgrounds have small tops attached which are all very loose posing a potential chocking hazard to children playing in the area.
Corrective action. Ensure outdoor play equipment accessible to children are safely constructed and free from hazards.
11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. A first aide kit used for one of the programs had medicinal medical ingredients housed in the kit to be used in the event of an emergency.
Corrective action. Ensure any substance that may be hazardous to children is not accessible.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - OR SUPERVISION
Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation. Staff working alone in one of the programs did not meet the required staffing to child ratio at the time of the inspection. The LO reviewed Schedule E in depth with the staff at the time of the inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure the staff to child ratio is maintained and follows Schedule E.

A licensee must (a) ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.
Observation. A staff working in the under three program was observed communicating ineffectively at the time of the inspection. The LO reviewed this observation in depth with the staff and on site supervisor during the inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure behavioral guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. Six children's files were reviewed and one child did not have evidence of immunization status available.
Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete including immunization status.
