  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Two different types of mushrooms were located in the wood chip area of the play ground. A conversation was had with a Manager on how to determine if they are poisonous and she was not sure and said the mushrooms are always there.

    Corrective action. Ensure that mushrooms with could pose a health risk to children are removed and outdoor area checked to ensure healthy and safe environment.

  • LICENSING

    A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

    Observation. Certificates of 2 educators are posted, however, their full names have been blacked out. 1 certificate of an educator working at the time of the inspection was not posted

    Corrective action. Ensure all certificates are posted without alteration.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

    Observation. -Staff files were not located on site. There is a checklist that did not contain all staff working at the time of the incident and the Managers were unable to access the staff file. -Children's emergency cards were on site and did not contain last names of the children and the emergency contacts. -children's files are located on epac system and not on site at the facility. The child care program was unable to access any children files. It was discussed that all information must be kept on site in a single location accessible to staff.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all information in section 56-58 is located in a single place in the community care facility. If you are using systems that are on-line, they must be accessible at all times children are in care.

    Observation. At the time of the inspection the children were observed participating in an activity with a electric blow up gaga pit in the rain. The LO reviewed this activity and potential hazards related to this activity. Staff ended the activity upon review of the risks.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  • NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES

    A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.

    Observation. Menus were reviewed a the time of the inspection. Children were not provided the food listed on the menu and parents were not informed of the changes. Additionally the food items provided do not follow the guidelines of Canada's Food Guide.

    Observation. At the time of the inspection children were observed on different levels of the program without staff supervision. The LO reviewed this requirement with the staff who corrected the practice immediately,

    A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).

    Observation. Several children's registration records were not available or accessible at the time of the inspection. The LO reviewed this requirement in depth at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure all children in attendance have accurate and available registration information at all times.

    A licensee must keep (b) in any other case, all criminal record check results and character references for the entire time that the subject of the criminal record check or character reference is ordinarily present on the premises.

    Observation. A support staff working in the program at the time of the inspection did not have evidence of a criminal records check available.

    Corrective action. Ensure a criminal record check is available for any individual who are ordinarily present on the premise.
