  Observation. The vanity located in the children's washroom has water damage and can no longer be sanitized. The walls in the nap/playroom has areas that are in need of repair

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Emergency supplies in the first aid kit are insufficient to respond to an emergency

• STAFFING

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. A criminal record check has not been obtained for a person over the age of 12 who resides in the home.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. - One unlocked drawer in the kitchen with exacto knife accessible to children - under the sink counter has cleaning products stored without a lock - cupboards and small fridge all containing alcohol are unlocked and accessible.

  Corrective action. Ensure hazardous substances are not accessible to children in care

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care: - Five cement blocks stacked on top of one another in the outdoor play area. - Two unlocked cupboards and an unlocked small fridge, in the kitchen, with several alcohol bottles. Some of the bottles are open. - One unlocked drawer in the kitchen with an exacto/utility knife in it. - Two unlocked drawers in the kitchen with many knives in them. - A diaper rash cream in a basket on the diaper change table.

  Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Upon a review of seven days of the attendance record for the month of August, Licensing observed the following; - One day that children were not signed out - Five days that children were not identified as absent Licensing provided education on what would meet the intent of the regulation.

  Corrective action. Ensure that attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Upon a review of three children's records, Licensing observed one child's record missing the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner. Licensing discussed what would meet the intent of this regulation.

  Corrective action. Ensure that children's records are complete.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

  Observation. Upon discussion with the Licensee and a review of the minor incident log book, Licensing observed that minor incidents involving the children are not recorded in the minor incident book. Licensing provided education on the importance of documenting all minor incidents.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a record is kept for a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule E.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. Upon an inspection of one staff file, Licensing noted that the staff's certificate was not verified.

  Corrective action. Ensure certificates are verified using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry.
