  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The following was observed outside in the children's play area: -tree roots are coming through the ground potentially causing a tripping hazard -2 spring rider toys are in poor repair and unable to be used by children -the wooden ties that frame the playground to prevent the pea gravel from moving out of the play area, are broken and rotting in some areas -this is creating a gap between the fence and the wooden ties which could present an entrapment area

    Corrective action. The Manager explained they will be providing a plan to update the playground and removing the broken equipment

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. The following was observed inside: -tile piece is missing in the 3-5 program which may be difficult to wipe clean and sanitize -the accordion doors that separate one of the School Age rooms is showing signs of disrepair -pieces of the accordion door are separating from each other which does not provide its purpose -it appears that some repairs have been made but one metal piece has come loose and could cause injury

    Corrective action. The Manager explained they are planning on replacing/repairing the accordion door and the tile.

    Observation. When Licensing arrived at the facility there was one 30 months to school age program in operation. There were 17 children in care with two Early Childhood Educators. This does not meet the Child Care Licensing Regulations staffing requirements.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the ratio of employees to children meets the staffing requirements at all times.
