    A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Audit of 13 children's registrations files, it was noted that 5 consent signatures have not been provided

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Licensing observed a medication recorded was not followed by staff as staff said they were given verbal alternate instructions. This information needs to be updated to ensure accuracy around medication administration. Medication was also expired and must not be given to child.

    Corrective action. Manager will connect with parent for clear and current instructions as to medication administration.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

    Observation. Licensing observed that the annual evacuation drill was not recorded, although practiced in the GCC (30-sa) program. All monthly fire drills were recorded.

    Corrective action. Please ensure this information is recorded and available.

    The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. Licensing observed a child requiring additional medication support did not have a Care plan developed in consultation with the parent. A medication form was available but did not have accurate instruction as to medication dosage times.

    Corrective action. Manager will connect with the parent to ensure accurate information is available for staff support.

    Observation. During the tour of one of the SASG classrooms, it was noted that the door to the school kitchen/pantry that could contain objects or substances that could be harmful to a child; was unlocked and open, leaving it accessible to children in care.
