The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]
Observation. This was originally found out of compliance on the last Routine Inspection dated January 16, 2025: The outdoor space is shared with the community centre and which can pose safety concerns. There are issues and deterioration of the ground covering, areas that are hard to supervise, and it is not enclosed. The equipment provided is also not all age appropriate and can lead to frustration for staff and children. LO is aware that there is a long term plan to make changes to this space. When thinking about a new space, it is recommended that you visit other programs that have outdoor spaces that may be shared outside of child care hours (to increase safety) and that are fully enclosed (allows staff supervision while interacting with children). It is also helpful to look at less structured equipment, and more natural environment that allows for many types of play. During the Routine Follow Up Inspection, the Manager stated the facility is currently in the process of a long term plan to reconstruct and build a new playground to share with the community. Construction for the new playground is to begin in Summer of 2026 and is expected to take a few months’ time. Manager further stated, the preschool staff are enjoying other options in the surrounding environment including the sand pit, swings, teeter, playhouse, artificial turf, and walks around the surrounding areas. Preschool staff are to modify the boundaries of the outdoor play space when using the playground area and to mostly keep to the smaller, age appropriate structure.
