  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. LO observed that the bathroom cupboard (under the sink) is accessible and has air freshener spray and water bottle with what appears to be a white cleaning product, these items could be hazardous to children. There are also 3 doors that lead to areas not to be used by children (office, laundry room and storage), these rooms are accessible. Lastly, in the nap room is a wardrobe that is over 4 feet and not anchored to the wall, this could potentially tip over. LO did observe a free standing heater in the nap room, the licensee stated that it is only on if she is in the same room.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

Observation. LO reviewed files and noted that there is a child without emergency contact (that is not parents). Also discussed the current Care Plan in place for a child. LO recommended using your own format, as this is a care plan for epi-pen. And it is not easy to follow if the needs the epi pen on not. When completing a care plan include - what the allergy is to, what not to do, what you would see if there is a reaction, and step by step with phone numbers and contact persons, what would staff do, who they would call, etc. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

  • STAFFING / Character and skill requirementsNon-critical

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]

Observation. ECE certificate has no validation completed. Go to - https://myeceregistry.gov.bc.ca/lookup/certification/ And keep copy of validation.
