Observation. Originally found out of compliance on October 9, 2024. Licensing observed deflated balls have been removed, the balls that are currently provided need more air in order for the toy to be used as it was designed and to avoid possible injury.

Observation. Licensing observed there was one less staff in attendance when there was 4 or more children under the age of 36 months, which was agreed upon in order to have an exemption approved.

Observation. Licensing observed some changes have been made to the outdoor space, but are incomplete. The large equipment needs maintenance work as well as additional toys and materials are to be added to the outdoor space to provide a comprehensive and coordinated program outside. The new Licensee is planning to make the changes to the outdoor space in order to meet legislative requirements.

Observation. Licensing observed a classroom where the furniture requires cleaning and sanitizing, as well as repairs. Licensing also observed the books on the book shelf were few and in disrepair, when Licensing spoke to a staff member they were removed and new books were placed on the shelf also meeting the capacity of the children in the class room.

Observation. Licensing observed a lack of materials and toys available for children in the outdoor area. A storage container was cracked and broken, which stored outside items. There are logs in the outdoor space that are rotting and need to be repaired or replaced. The sandbox requires a cover large enough to cover all of the sandbox area. There needs to be enough activities for the maximum capacity of children using the space at one time, currently there is not enough toys and equipment to meet one group of 30months to school age, capacity 25.

Observation. Licensing observed a large group of children in the sandbox platform area. The day was very sunny and there was only a limited amount of shade for the children. In the areas where there was shade there were no activities to access at the time of the inspection. i.e. playhouse As per the Director of Standards of Practice (DOLSOP) - Safe Play space states: The licensee must ensure that enough shade is provided to protect children from sunburn and sunstroke. Licensing confirmed there were only minimal amount of activities for the 34 children who where in the space. Educators may want to think about the activities that children have access to inside and moving it to the outside. e.g. art, painting, building, pretend play materials: dishes, animals, reading area.

It was explained there needed to be enough activities for the maximum capacity of children using the space at one time.
