  • PROGRAM / Program of activitiesNon-critical

Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]

Observation. Licensing observed the outdoor space had limit to no activities presented for the children. A practicum student was engaged with a group of children in the sandbox area, the other children were on bikes just sitting leaning on the handle bars. There was a child in the playhouse sitting on the bench, there were no toys or equipment in the playhouse. When it was discussed with educators around the lack of activities they explained a house was removed the prior week, there used to be a water table but that had been removed as well. Licensing explained to the educators they need to provide activities to the children, even if it means bringing them from inside to the outside. When looking around the classroom there was minimal activities for the children to do there as well. Licensing observed on a shelving unit with squares to store toys three bricks to stack on a tray, another square had one puzzle with 3/4 piece and other square with 6- 8 pieces. At the time of the visit, licensing had an educator bring a container of Duplo and placed on the concrete square where the children all gathered immediately. Unfortunately an educator just hovered and gave guidance statements rather then engaging in the activity, supporting the change and providing ways to extend the play.
