    Observation. Licensing observed: The Licensee is not following the manufactures recommendations for the playpens being used for children to sleep. The licensee has pulled out the sleep mat that is part of the playpen and has replaced it with a mattress.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: The counters have a rubber mat on the base of the counter, which prevents the educators from cleaning and sanitizing. Licensing is concern that this presents a risk of the spreading germs and illnesses. The playpens used for rest time for children are not identified for sleeping. There were additional playpen base mats stacked on top of each other in the playpen to create comfort. Licensing is concerned that this poses a safety concern in addition to not following the manufactures safety guidelines.

    All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Outdoor sandboxes were not being maintained for outdoor play. - In one of the rooms, the tables were placed so the toys were blocked from being accessible.

    Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]

    Observation. Looking through the storage container, Licensing confirmed there were only minimal amount of activities to support a capacity of 16 children in the space. Educators may want to think about the kind of activities that children have access to inside and duplicating it to the outside. e.g. art, painting, building, pretend play materials: dishes, pots, pans, variety of cars and animals, for dramatic and pretend play, reading area etc. Licensing did observed there is more shade on the one side of the outside space but limited in the other areas that are accessible to the children. As per the Director of Standards of Practice (DOLSOP) - Safe Play space states: The licensee must ensure that enough shade is provided to protect children from sunburn and sunstroke. Licensee to consider possible sun shades or sails.
