    Observation. Children's pillows are stored together.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During inspection licensing observed the following was accessible to children: - Rust build up on the metal front panel of the fireplace. - 2 children portable potties with urine in it was placed in the hallway. During the inspection, the manager corrected this and said that urine is usually discarded and potties sanitized immediately after each use, but today was a busy day, so it was not done. -Cupboard with 4 containers of laundry detergent was unlocked.

    Corrective action. manager said that the rusted fireplace will be painted, and a child-proof lock will be installed on the cupboard where laundry detergents are stored.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Some knobs on kitchen cabinets door & drawer are broken; a black string is being used instead which is not fully secure making contents in these cabinets accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Manager said that knobs will be replaced by this weekend and photos will be emailed to Licensing.

    A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

    Observation. When the licensing officer arrived and knocked on the entrance door, a child opened it and when the licensing officer stepped inside the manager was seen speaking with another staff. Manager said she usually opens the door, but today was a busy day, and she does remind the children not to open the door.

    Corrective action. Manager said she will install a child proof lock on the entrance door to ensure a child does not open the front door by themselves.

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff.

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will obtain immunization status for staff. Licensing provided sample CCFL form for recording staff immunization status.

    Observation. Staff file did not have a criminal record check. Manager said that she is aware that the staff has a valid criminal check from another daycare; but she does not have a copy of it.

    Corrective action. Manager said she will ask staff to provide a CRC copy from the other facility and will also apply for staff criminal check through Criminal Record Review Agency sharing program.

    Observation. A minimum of two character references were not obtained for one staff. Manager said she has personally known the staff for a long time, licensing discussed that verified character references are CCFL requirement for staff file.

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will obtain and verify two character references for the staff.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. 1 staff's certificate has not been verified through the Early Childhood Educator Registry. The Manager was not aware that ECE certificates need to be verified by the ECE Registry. Licensing officer will email the manager the validation link to verify ECE certificate.

    Corrective action. Manager will validate staff ECE certificate and keep evidence of validation in staff file.
