  Observation. The service tag on the Fire extinguisher expired July, 2023

  Corrective action. Manager said the Fire extinguisher will be serviced.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff's ECE certificate was not validated by the ECE Registry

  Corrective action. The Manager will validate the staff's ECE certificate and keep a copy of the results in the staff's file.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. During this inspection Licensing observed wash basin used for children's handwashing had visible stains of dirt and paint inside and around the washbasin. Staff explained usually washbasin is cleaned daily but was missed yesterday due to change in staff schedule.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that washbasin used for handwashing for children is cleaned daily.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing officer reviewed 3 staff files and 1 staff file had no valid criminal record check. The manager stated criminal record check was applied last month and are still waitiing for the results . Licesning did see the evidence of the submitted CRC application in staff file. .

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete before start of employment.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing officer reviewed 3 staff records and 1 staff's ECEcertificate has not been verified by the Early Childhood Educator Registry

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the facility.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Anti-bacterial wipes are stored in a cupboard accessible to children. This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # SMIA-BUTSG7 dated 27 Oct 2020.

  Corrective action. Ensure that anti-bacterial wipes are inaccessible to all children

  Observation. Upon a review of two staff records Licensing observed that one staff's certificate has not been verified by using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry.

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following in the bathroom: the floors needed cleaning, visible yellow stains in the toilet bowl and under the toilet seat.

  Corrective action. Ensure washroom is clean.

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

  Observation. 11 children’s files were reviewed and 4 children who require extra support did not have a care plan.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all the children requiring extra support have a care plan.

• STAFFING

  Without limiting subsection (2), if the duties of an employee include care for a child who requires extra support, a licensee must ensure that the employee has the training and experience and demonstrates the skills necessary to care for that child.

  Observation. A staff person has been hired to work with a child who requires extra support. There is no evidence in the file that this person has the training or experience to work with the child.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff who are hired to work with children who require extra support have the appropriate experience and training.

  Observation. 1 out of 4 staff files reviewed the references were not available

  Corrective action. Ensure that character references are obtained and verified for each employee.

  Observation. 1 out of 4 staff files reviewed was missing valid criminal record check. Evidence of CRC application was on file.

  Corrective action. All staff must have a valid criminal record check in their file before they start employment.
