    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. The following was observed: > Children and staff did not wash hands prior to eating/serving snacks. > Children's food haave not been refrigerated since drop off and children did not have ice packs in their lunch bags.

    Corrective action. The Manager said she will keep kids food in the fridge and that children's hands will be washed before they eat.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed the following were accessible to children: - Plastic bags stored in an unlocked bathroom cupboard;Manager removed them during inspection. - Metal nail on the play room floor. Manager said it probably came inside with the staff who went outside to the garage. Licensing checked the garage and found the door left unlocked. The manager removed the nail and said the garage door is usually kept locked, but the staff forgot to lock it today.

    Corrective action. Manager said that plastic bags will be stored in a locked cupboard, the garage door will remain locked, and the indoor play area floor will be regularly checked to ensure no hazardous items are accessible to children.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inpsection Licenisng observed hand hygiene practices for children were not followed after diapering and eating routines. Licensing pointed this out to the manager, and the children's hands were washed immediately. Licensing discussed the importance of washing children's hands after each toileting/bathroom routine and before and after eating.

    Corrective action. Manager said children hands will be washed after each toileting routine and before and after eating routines.

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will post her name in a prominent place today.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing Officer observed food & water supplies in the emergency supply kit was not sufficient for 72 hours. Two bags of fish crackers in the emergency supplies had the expiration date for tomorrow 15 November 2024.

    Corrective action. Manager said emergency supply kit will be replenished with sufficient food and water for 72 hours for the enrolled children.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. Licensing observed that two staff's certificate has not been verified through the early childhood educator registry.

    Corrective action. Manager said certificates will be validated today and a printed copy of the validation results will be kept in staff files

    A licensee must keep (a) in the case of employees, all records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements] for the entire time that the subject of the records is an employee of the community care facility.

    Observation. Substitute staff present today was missing the following documents: a valid criminal record check clearance, ECEA certificate, resume, reference checks, and immunization status. Manager said that the staff had completed ECEA training; however, Licensing was unable to verify this during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Manager said staff file will be complete with evidence with all required documentation before the staff begin employment.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for two staff.

    Corrective action. The Manager will obtain evidence of the staff's immunization status to be kept in staff’s file.

    Observation. A record of work history was not obtained for one staff

    Corrective action. Manager will ask staff to provide a copy of their resume today; a copy will be kept in staff file.
