    Observation. Upon inspection, there were doors to storage and maintenance that were left open.This is a repeat contravention.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. Upon inspection of the diaper mat, it was ripped and posed a sanitation concern.This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Please ensure equipment is in good repair and easy to clean.

    Observation. Upon inspection, there were diaper creams containing medication, that did not have parent consent for application.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The door to the electrical room was open during this inspection in the toddler room. Staff said they were using cleaning equipment stored in this room and the door is usually closed. Staff closed the door during the inspection. A water fountain is accessible to children in the school age/preschool room.To stop the spread of infection children should not have access to this.

    Corrective action. Please make sure the door to the electrical room is closed at all times so ensure children do not access this room and that children do not have access to the water fountain.

    Observation. The change mat in the infant program is cracked exposing foam and cannot be adequately sanitized. Staff stated that a new change mat will be brought to the facility today.

    Corrective action. Please make sure foam is not exposed on change mats.

  • OR SUPERVISION

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): At the time of this inspection there were 11 children, 1 infant toddler educator and one ECE Assistant present in the infant room. Staffing in the room did not meet the requirements of Schedule E. Staff stated that they were calling a staff from another program to come to the room and this staff arrived while the Licensing Officer was in the room.

    Corrective action. Please make sure that staffing always meets the requirements of CCLR Schedule E.

    Observation. Four care plans had not been reviewed in the past 12 months.

    Corrective action. To ensure care plans contain current information please ensure they are reviewed a minimum of once ever 12 months.

    Observation. Two care plans do not have clear instructions so staff can adequately follow the care plan.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all care plans have clear instructions to guide staff actions when working with a child who requires extra support.

    Observation. Medication required for two children had expired.

    Corrective action. Please make sure medication with a current expiry date is available as required by care plans.

    Observation. Four staff files were reviewed. Criminal record checks for three staff were from other programs and had not been obtained through the Criminal Record Review Sharing Program (CRRSP).

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all criminal record checks from other programs are obtained through the CRRSP.

    Without limiting subsection (2), if the duties of an employee include care for a child who requires extra support, a licensee must ensure that the employee has the training and experience and demonstrates the skills necessary to care for that child.

    Observation. One staff person is employed to provide 1:1 support for a child with extra needs. There is no evidence in the staff file that this person has the training or experience to work with the child.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all support staff have the training and experience to work with children they are supporting and that evidence of this is available in the staff file.
