    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Four children files were reviewed; one file was missing emergency contact information. Licensing discussed emergency contacts are required in the event of an emergency when the parents are unreachable.During inspection manager contacted the parent to get the emergency contact information. Licensing reviewed this information.

    Corrective action. Manager said she will ensure children's files contain emergency contact information upon enrollment. .

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Manager and one staff's ECE certificates were not validated by the ECE Registry. Manager verified both certificates during inspection.

    Corrective action. Manager said any renewed ECE certificates will be verified by the ECE Registry, and the results will be printed and kept in the staff's file.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed the outdoor gate was locked. This gate is one of the facility's emergency exits. A combination lock was used to secure this gate. Both staff did not have any knowledge on how to open the combination lock.

    Corrective action. A Licensee must not block or hamper an exit in the care of fire or other emergency.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The temperature of the fridge used for storing children's food temperature measured 8.4 degree Celsius. Staff lowered the temperature during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the fridge temperature is kept between 0-4 degrees Celsius for safe food storage

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed that staff did not wash children's hands before eating routine. Licensing officer asked the staff to wash children's hands before eating snack. Staff mentioned that they usually wash children hands but today they didn't as it was a busy morning.

    Corrective action. A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practice the rules of, health and hygiene which includes handwashing before and after eating routines.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed that the name of the Manager was not posted in the facility.

    A licensee must provide to children a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that (b) is appropriate for the age and development of children in each group in the community care facility.

    Observation. Licensing was informed that children have not had outdoor play since July. Staff informed that Manager has directed them not to take children outside. Licensing officer discussed DOLSOP Active Play with both staff.

    Corrective action. Licensee must provide children a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities which includes one hour of outdoor play every day.

    A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).

    Observation. 8 children files were reviewed and one child registration form was available but was hard to read as the printing was not legible as writing was very small and faded. Both staff attempted to read the form but was unable to read the information on the child's registration form.

    Corrective action. Complete files are required for all children and information in the files must be easily readable by any staff.

    Observation. Upon review of 2 staff files: -One staff CRC was not expired, but it was not addressed to this facility -One staff does not have a CRC completed through the criminal record review agency in Victoria. That staff person currently has a clear criminal record check from the RCMP on file at the facility

    Corrective action. Please ensure all criminal record checks are obtained through the Criminal Record Review Agency.
