Observation. Licensing observed a staff member holding a child in one arm while sweeping the sandbox during outdoor play as the program transition to get back inside. This practice poses a safety risk.

Observation. Licensing observed that the crib mattress covers had visible stains on them.

All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]
Observation. Licensing observed the outdoor playground for the Seal Room Two and Starfish Room and noted the following items: *The wooden climbing structure, the bridge portion has rusty screws protruding from the wood. Additionally, the wood is peeling, creating rough and sharp exposed areas that are accessible to children. *The play structure has numerous spider webs at children’s height. *On the upper part of the slide, there is a hole where a child’s hand or finger could get trapped. Sharp edges around the hole are also exposed. *A water hose is located on the ground inside a playhouse structure that is accessible to children, creating a tripping hazard. *A rope is tied to the balcony and is accessible to children, creating an entanglement hazard.

Observation. Licensing observed that regular outdoor play space checks were being conducted; however, damaged equipment was not documented or closed off until repairs were made.

Observation. Two of the doors to the classroom kitchens do not shut / latch, children can access these kitchen areas. There is a carpet with edges curling up near the exit to the play ground in one classroom. There are items encroaching on the toilet area in one washroom, appearing as though they could fall on a child while the child is on the toilet. The highchairs have old debris in the seat area. There are blue small chairs that have cracks in the vinyl covering making it difficult to ensure adequate cleaning and sanitizing.

Observation. Medical Insurance Information was not available for one child, within a sample of children's files reviewed. A conversation was had in regards to the importance of obtaining all required documents prior to enrolment, as outlined in CCLR Sec 57, in order to keep in compliance with Regulation.

Observation. Two care plans were observed incomplete, missing the child's photo, medication expiry date, and staff signature. A conversation occurred the care plan is to be reviewed at least on an annual basis. Care plans are to be stored with the medication, which goes wherever the child is. For example, if the child goes on a walk, the medication and the plan must be brought on the walk.

Observation. Licensing noted children were provided with very few activities for outdoor play. Pictures of the outdoor play area attached in HH/ emailed to Licensee Manager stated that activities and toys were available in the storage unit, however only few were provided to children.

Ensure all staff have ECE verification printed and on file.
