    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The following was accessible to children: -Across two washroom stalls, 2 spray bottles with clear liquid and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. -In one of the rooms, 2 spray bottles with blue cleaning liquid. -In the other room, powdered detergent. Upon notifying the manager, all the items above were moved and stored in locked storage.

    Corrective action. Correct during inspection.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the second room of the portable, under the sink, the following items are accessible: 2 boxes of Borax, 2 containers of disinfectant wipes, 1 unlabelled spray bottle, and 1 bottle indicating bleach and water. Upon notifying the Manager, all items were stored elswhere inaccessible to children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure hazardous items are inaccessible to children.

    Observation. 2 care plans that were not annually reviewed with parents. 1 care plan was last reviewed November 5, 2021 and the other was reviewed September 25, 2023.

    Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are annually reviewed.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

    Observation. As per 1 child's registration file, the child has a documented medical condition requiring emergency medication and no care plan in place. As per staff, the medication is not on-site as parents have not instructed the facility to adminster the medication because the parents administer it at home. Licensing and staff discussed following up on this and obtaining appropriate documentation.

    Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are obtained for children that require extra support.

    Observation. The facility maintains a staff qualification list. On the list provided today, 1 staff's documents and qualifications are blank. In the staff's file, there was a current first aid. This staff will not be left alone until the criminal record check is obtained and/or documented on the qualification list.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are completed with required information and documentation.

    Observation. On the staff qualification list, there is no indication of a current criminal record check for the Manager. As per the Manager, she attempted to complete the criminal record check online, but her second means of ID needs to renewed. In the meantime, the Manager will not be left alone with children until a current criminal record check is obtained.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a current criminal record check is obtained for all staff.

    Observation. Licensing observed a bottle of bleach and dish detergent pods that are stored under the sink and accessible to children. Licensing and the Manager discussed ways to store these items in a way that is inaccessible to children.

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. During the routine inspection the following was observed: - in QE Clubhouse Portable a child requiring extra support had a care plan present, however, the care plan was missing a date when it was signed. In Kids Borough Portable the same child who required extra support has not had their plan reviewed since 2020.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all care plans are reviewed annually with the parent and other person requested by the parent.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Due to the extreme weather this summer the program has a number of fans and air purifiers in use. During today's inspection licensing observed several electrical cords on the floor adjacent to the staff desk, as well as in the both main play areas.

    Corrective action. Cords must be secure to prevent an individual from receiving an injury due to tripping or electric shock.

    Observation. The facility has placed hand sanitizer at the facility entrance as well as within the main play areas. As per manufacturer's recommendation these types of products must be kept out of children's reach.

    Corrective action. Any hand sanitizer product must be stored in a manner where children do not have access.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

    Observation. A child with a medical condition that requires the use of a medical device did not have a care plan which includes signs and symptoms for medical intervention and what to do following this intervention.

    Corrective action. Licensing provided the Manager with resources to refer use for this child. Alternately the facility and/or family may chose to use another resource and/or care plan. The facility did have a completed consent form to administer medication for this child.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

    Observation. The facility has posted children's anaphylaxis care plans for staff reference. Upon review of the plans it was noted two children who had a completed care plan did not meet the criteria for this type of plan as one has a different diagnosis and one has a mild allergy and no intervention is required.

    Corrective action. In discussion with the Manager they will review the children's care plans and remove any one that doesn't meet the criteria for anaphylaxis. For the child who has a different diagnosis licensing recommended a different resource/care plan for the family to complete.
