- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. In the outdoor area: - rubber tiles are lifting and present a tripping hazard. The manager has a plan to remove and replace the lifting tiles. In the meantime, children will be assisted to walk around this area and a visual marker will be used around the area to prevent children from walking on it/through it. - small rocks are accessible in one corner and present a choking hazard. The manager said that children do not play here and will remove the rocks.
Corrective action. The manager will submit a plan with a timeline that indicates when these items will be permanently addressed.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. Criminal record check for one staff is not addressed to the facility's organization.
Corrective action. The manager will apply to share the CRC will the facility's organization.

Observation. 1 child missing enrollment date.
Corrective action. The manager will obtain this information and document it on the child's registration file.
19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation. 3/3 staffing missing certificate validations from the ECE Registry. This is a repeat contravention from the previous routine inspection (Inspection Report #NSAO-D3PPNY).
Corrective action. The manager will obtain certificate validations for all staff.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation. Fire drills were not practiced nor recorded for each month of 2024.
Corrective action. The manager will ensure that fire drills are practiced on a monthly basis.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation. An emergency evacuation drill was not practiced for 2024.
Corrective action. The manager will ensure that an emergency evacuation drill is practiced annually.

Observation. Unsecured storage unit in accessible washroom which is designated use for the child care programs. As per the Manager, the unit was received yesterday and she plans on securing it today after the program ends.
Corrective action. The Manager will secure the unit.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation. Manager name is not posted.
Corrective action. The Manager's name will be posted in a public area.
10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation. In discussion with the Manager, 1 child has medication relating to diet. The Manager explained the purpose and adminstration of this medication as agreed to by the parents and facility. There is a medication adminstration form available, but no written instructions from the parents regarding the adminstration of this medication.
Corrective action. The Manager will obtain written instructions from the parents relating to the adminstration of this medication.
19140 - CCLR s.57(2)(h)(i) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation. Upon reviewing a child's file and in discussion with the Manager, a care plan is not in place for a child that requires one. A medication administration form is available for the child.
Corrective action. A care plan will be created in collaboration with the parents and/or any health care professionals for the child.
19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. 1 child missing immunization status. Another child is missing an MSP#. As per the Manager, the child has an MSP# from another province. This MSP# can be documented on the child's file in the meantime.
Corrective action. The immunization status and MSP# will be obtained for the children.
19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. 1/4 child missing doctor name and contact information. As per the Manager, the family is new to the province and does not have a family doctor. Licensing explained that walk-in clinic is sufficient information.
Corrective action. This information will be obtained for the child.
