    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. 1 child enrolled in the Preschool program turns 36 months in January 2025. As per legislation, preschool children are at least: 30 months old on entrance to the program and 36 months old by December 31 of the year of entrance. Licensing and the Manager discussed temporary placement applications.

    Corrective action. The Manager will submit a temporary placement request to Licensing.

    Observation. During the routine inspection 3 staff files were reviewed. One staff file had a CRC on site however, it was not site specific. Manager stated that she applied for a share of the CRC but could not find it at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all CRC's are site specific.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. 1)In the area designated for the group child care (school age) children there were ant traps on the floor by the windows. The manufacturers recommendation on the product states the item is to be kept out of reach of children. 2) in the area designated for the preschool children there is a tall cupboard located adjacent to the activity sink. Stored in this cupboard was cleaning products and the manufacturers recommendation on these items state to keep out of children's reach.

    Corrective action. The traps need to be removed when children are present and the cleaning products must be stored in a manner that is out of reach of children.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. In the area designated for the group child care (school age) children there is a window ledge that is painted yellow. The paint is chipped and the exposed areas are no longer cleanable as the surface is now porous.

    Corrective action. Ensure the area is sealed to enable it to be cleaned and sanitized.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed cleaning products being stored in the lower cabinet in the three washrooms. There are staff personal belongings stored in a open cabinet. These belongings were not inspected but there is the potential they contain items that needed to be made inaccessible to the chidlren such as medication.

    Corrective action. These items must be made inaccessible to children to prevent possible harm or injury.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 10 files and saw 5 files were missing the child's care card number.

    Corrective action. In discussion with the Manager these families have applied for a care card. The Manager will indicate in children's files this information and once the child has been issued a care card the child's file will be updated.

    A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

    Observation. One of the ten children's files (registration form and emergency consent card were reviewed) is missing authorization for the facility to call medical assistance in case of an emergency.

    Corrective action. Ensure all files have the above noted consent.

    Observation. 5 of 10 children's files were missing the name and number of a doctor.

    Corrective action. In discussion with the Manager the families do not have a family doctor. The Manager will indicate this on the children's files or ask the family to include the name of a medical clinic that they use. This information will be updated as needed.

    Corrective action. The Manager indicated that the individual has applied however they have not received any reply. Any individual, over the age of 12 years, who is regularly on the premise must have a criminal record clearance prior to being in the program.

    Observation. Upon review of 5 staff files and in discussion with the Manager there is one file that has a criminal record clearance letter that is addressed to another agency and/or employer.

    Corrective action. The Manager has applied to have the letter shared with their facility and is waiting for the results.

    Observation. Upon review of 5 staff files Licensing noted one file does not have any evidence that the individual's references were verified.

    Corrective action. The Licensee has a system in place to demonstrate they have verified staff's references however it was missing in one file. Ensure references are verified for all staff.
