    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The facility's secondary exit and evacuation is through the outoor gate which was locked with a key. Upon notifying the staff, the gate was unlocked. Licensing and manager discussed keeping this gate unlocked and accessible during operating hours.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all exits are not blocked or hamper an exit in the case of an emergency.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Paint is peeling on yellow bench beside the cubbies. This is a repeat contravention from Inspection Report # NSAO-CNMQNQ. As per the Manager, the facility previously addressed this in November 2024 and have chipped as children enjoy picking at the yellow paint. Licensing and the Manager discussed alternatives to ensure paint chipping is reduced.

    Corrective action. Please submit a plan to Licensing that addresses how the chipping paint will be addressed.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Upon reviewing attendance sheets and discussion with program staff, children who are absent are not recorded on the attendance sheet. Instead, parents text the Manager of any absences. Licensing explained that children's absences in addition to times of arrival and departure must be recorded.

    Corrective action. The Manager has said that the program will now record children's absences.

    Observation. Upon reviewing 9 children's files, 1 child's emergency contacts listed are the child's parents. Licensing and the Manager discussed emergency contacts being individuals that are not the parents and that can contact the parents when the facility cannot.

    Corrective action. The facility will be following up with the parents to obtain an emergency contact that is not the parent(s).

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -chipping paint on the bench adjacent to the children's cubbies -paint chipping on the wall by the circle time area -in the children's washroom, the cupboard door beside one of the toilets is no longer secured by its top hinge making it a falling hazard. This was corrected during the inspection by the Manager's husband. The cupboard door is now appropriately secured.

    Corrective action. Please ensure furniture, equipment, and fixtures are clean and in good repair while children are present.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a cupboard that was unlocked and accessible to children containing cleaning supplies and solutions. Upon notifying the Manager, the cupboard was immediately locked.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any hazardous objects or substances.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A cupboard containing a windex spray bottle, a bottle of Mr. Clean cleaning substance and a bottle of baby oil was unlocked allowing children access to the hazardous substances.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any hazardous substances.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection it was observed that 14 children's blue cots were covered with sheets and had blankets on them. The cots were stacked one on top of each other causing the sheets to touch promoting cross contamination.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Please ensure that the blankets and sheets do not touch.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During the inspection of the physical facility the following was observed: - one plank was missing from the outside fence. Manager stated that the landlord is aware of the missing plank and that he will fix it. - the underlay fabric from under the wood chips was showing and posed a tripping hazard. Manager stated that she will add more wood chips to prevent the children from tripping over the underlay fabric. - various walls in the indoor facility were showing signs of wear and tear by having paint pealing. The surface where the paint was pealing has become porous making it hard to clean.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility is in good repair.

    Observation. During the inspection of the emergency supplies, it was noted that some food in the emergency kits expired in January. The manager stated she will review all the emergency kits and she will ask the parents to replace the expired food.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that you have enough supplies to mitigate, respond and recover from an emergency.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. In the children's washroom licensing observed a spray bottle containing a bleach and water solution. The bottle was placed on a shelf however it was within reach of children. Licensing also noted staff's personal belongings (which may contain medication or other hazardous items) within reach of the children.

    Corrective action. The above noted items will need to be stored in a manner that is inaccessible to children of all ages.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files and noted 1 of the files did not contain the immunization status of the individual.

    Corrective action. Ensure all staff files are complete with the legislative documentation prior to the individual providing care to children.
