A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. there are areas on the floor that are damaged and not sufficiently cleaned , there are chipped areas of gyprock in the walls that need to be repaired

Corrective action. please ensure the areas are repaired or in accessible to the children

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. the hot water measure 54 degrees Celsius

Corrective action. the hot-water can not exceed 49 degrees Celsius

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. there an emergency preparedness kit however it does not have sufficient food water or shelter

Corrective action. licensee stated they will ensure sufficient supplies are available for the suggested 72 hours

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

Observation. Licensing observed that children were not signed in for many days since January 2024. There were some days that the children were not signed in at all.

Corrective action. The manager said that she will ensure this is corrected and will speak to the opening staff about signing children in everyday.

Observation. There were multiple areas in the facility where paint was chipping.

Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. Licensing reviewed staff files and observed that one staff was missing a criminal record check clearance letter (CRC) conducted through the criminal record check review program (CRRP). Licensing did note that a CRC was conducted through the RCMP.

Corrective action. Please ensure CRC's for staff are conducted through the CRRP.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. Licensing reviewed staff files and observed that one staff was missing record of 2 character references.

Corrective action. Please ensure character references prior to hiring.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. In the backyard, a plastic kitchen set for children was stationed against a fence that enclosed an underground pool.

Corrective action. Please ensure there is a clearance to mitigate the potential for children to climb the fence.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. Medical consent record was missing for a child who was administered medication by the Licensee.

Corrective action. Please ensure medical consent record is available prior to administering medication.
