A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Diaper mat and table had rips and tears preventing proper sanitization.

Corrective action. The manager said she will order a new mat and fix the table to be able to properly sanitize the surface

A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Additional mattresses are being placed in the playpens for children to sleep on

Corrective action. Manager removed the additional mattresses and will review manufacturers instructions for safe sleep with all staff

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Licensing reviewed two staff files, of which one educator certificate had not been verified by the early childhood educator registry.

Corrective action. Licensee stated they would obtain verification for the one certificate.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

Observation. Licensing observed that no fire drill practice was documented for the month of December. The Licensee confirmed that no fire drill was practiced.

Corrective action. Licensee stated fire drills would be implemented and documented on a monthly basis moving forward.
